#1. District Binh Thanh, Goat Restaurant Quan Lau De 111 Review
Goat restaurant Quan Lau De 111 is located on the main road from District Binh Thanh to District 1, right next to Pham Viet Chanh Street, also known as Little Tokyo, in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City. This restaurant is famous for its goat dishes in the neighborhood, and even on weekday evenings, you can always see groups of locals drinking beer with goat meat.
My wife and I visited for dinner on a Friday evening and sat in a corner of the restaurant. Usually on Friday and Saturday evenings, there are always locals living nearby, so there are no empty tables and nomally have to wait, but on that day, there was a team leaving as soon as we arrived, so there was a seat.
As soon as I took a table, I was given Thai basil and chili slices to eat with goat meat. The chili slices can be used in the hot pot or in the special sauce for dipping the goat meat.
I ordered Saigon Special as a beer to go with the goat meat. They sell a variety of beers such as Tiger, Heineken, and 333, but I personally like Saigon Special the best. At 20,000VND per can, it is very cheap.
For my first dish, I ordered De Hap(Steamed Goat Meat). It was filled with goat meat, okra, perilla leaves, lemongrass, etc. on a steaming plate in a pot. The goat meat was chewy and had a rich flavor, without any unpleasant odor, unlike its appearance.
Mix the miso sauce and chili sauce on the table to create a special sweet and spicy sauce for dipping the goat meat. When you dip the light taste goat meat in this sauce, you will immediately understand why this restaurant is so popular.
Goat meat with perilla leaves and okra dipped in a special sauce is really delicious. It's a taste that even foreigners wouldn't dislike.
For my second dish, I ordered Lau De Nhung Me(Goat Hotpot). A variety of ingredients such as goat meat, various vegetables, rice noodles, and ramen noodles are served together with a pot of broth.
The broth in the pot contains taro, tofu, tofu skin, and chili peppers. Once it starts to boil, add various vegetables and goat meat. The broth has a spicy flavor from chili added to the savory flavor from the vegetables and goat meat, which is quite attractive.
After eating the vegetables and meat first, eat ramen or rice noodles in the broth that has become even more delicious with the various ingredients. Put rice noodles in a bowl and pour hot pot broth to eat, and cook ramen in the hotpot.
#2. Goat Restaurant Quan Lau De 111 Menu
Goat restaurant Quan Lau De 111 sells goat dishes in various ways such as grilled, stir-fried, steamed, and hotpot. Personally, I like marinated grilled, steamed, and goat meat cha gio the most. As expected from a local restaurant, the prices on the menu are cheap, especially the beer, which is very cheap at 20,000VND per can. The menu is in Vietnamese and English, so ordering is not difficult.
My wife and I visited for dinner on Friday evening and ordered as follows.
De Hap(Steamed Goat Meat): 190,000VND
Lau De Nhung Me(Goat Meat Hotpot): 240,000VND
Saigon Special: 20,000VND x 2 EA = 40,000VND
Coke: 17,000VND
Khan Lanh(Wet Wipes): 2,000VND x 2 EA = 4,000VND
The total came to 491,000VND, which was surprisingly cheaper than I thought. Quan Lau De 111 is a great restaurant where you can enjoy a generous portion of delicious goat dishes without any strange smells at a reasonable price that even foreigners will not particularly like or dislike. The alcohol is also cheap, making it a great place to visit to have a drink with goat meat.
