#1. District Binh Thanh, Genghis Khan restaurant HITSUJI Review Review
Genghis Khan specialty restaurant GENGHIS KHAN HITSUJI is located in an alley near Pham Viet Chanh Street in Binh Thanh District, called Little Tokyo in Ho Chi Minh City. Genghis Khan is a dish of lamb grilled on a round iron plate and is a representative local dish of Hokkaido. I was delighted to see a restaurant like this open in Ho Chi Minh City, where there aren't many lamb specialty restaurants.
I visited for a meal with friends on a Wednesday evening, and all the tables except ours, which we had reserved, were filled with customers. If I hadn't made a reservation in advance, I would have had to wait for a long time.
The price of Sapporo draft beer here is 60,000VND, which is a bit cheaper than other Japanese restaurants nearby. In particular, GENGHIS KHAN HITSUJI can be said to be more cheaper considering that it does not charge additional service charge and VAT.
For my first order, I ordered Set Jingisukan(leg meat + lean meat) for 3 people. The photo below shows one serving and consists of lamb leg(left) and lean meat(right).
It comes with a small brazier unique to Japanese yakiniku and a round iron plate specifically for Genghis Khan. There is a lump of lamp fat on top of the grill, and like pork fat, it serves to grease the grill.
Lamb leg, lean meat, and vegetables such as cabbage and bean sprouts are grilled together on the grill. You can smell the pleasant aroma of lamb as the meat cooks, and you can't wait to drink Sapporo beer. It looked appetizing and the taste was also quite good.
By default, cilantro comes with the sauce, and kimchi was ordered extra for an additional fee. The kimchi looks quite delicious, but since it was made to suit Japanese tastes, it has a strong sweet taste and tastes a little different from the original taste of Korean kimchi, so from a Korean perspective, I felt there was no need to order it.
Ponzu sauce is provided for dipping the meat, and you can add minced garlic, red pepper powder, vinegar, etc. to suit your taste. When you dip lamb in this sauce, it adds a sweet, sour and salty flavor and aroma, which helps to make your meal more delicious as it eliminates unpleasant odors.
After ordering an ordinary lamb meat and having a decent meal, I additionally ordered the relatively high-quality Lamb Chops. Although it is not cost effective, the texture and taste are definitely excellent, so if you want to fully enjoy delicious lamb, you must order it.
Although the amount was small, I could immediately feel that the soft and juicy meat was completely different from leg meat and regular lean meat. The difference is clearly felt, but the price is also clearly different, so it is burdensome to order a large amount.
After the meal, I ordered Hokkaido-style Cold Noodle for dessert, and it tasted quite similar to Korean Dongchimi noodles. The cool and refreshing taste of the soup, kimchi(Japanese style) and coriander's aroma suited the Korean palate better than expected.
#2. GENGHIS KHAN HITSUJI Menu
Genghis Khan specialty restaurant GENGHIS KHAN HITSUJI serves several types of lamb and side dishes. The prices are relatively cheap for a lamb restaurant, making it a great place to enjoy draft beer with lamb at an affordable price.
Two of my friends and I visited for dinner on a Wednsday evening and ordered the following.
Set Jingisukan(leg meat + lean meat): 250,000VND x 4 EA = 1,000,000VND
Lamb Chops: 150,000VND x 6 EA = 900,000VND
Cold Noodle: 120,000VND x 3 EA = 360,000VND
Kimchi: 45,000VND
Sapporo Draft Beer: 60,000VND x 6 EA = 360,000VND
A total of a decent amount of 2,665,000 VND came out. It's a Japanese restaurant, and I especially liked that unlike other Japanese restaurants, they don't charge additional fees such as service charge or VAT. GENGHIS KHAN HITSUJI is a place in Ho Chi Minh where you can enjoy lamb at the most reasonable price and is definitely worth a visit if you like lamb.
