#1. District Binh Thanh, Cocktail Bar TU BAR Review
Cocktail bar TU BAR is located in an alley near the roundabout near City Garden Apartment, in front of Sunwa Pearl Apartment, District Binh Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City. This is a luxurious cocktail bar with a unique atmosphere. The prices are quite high considering the cost of Ho Chi Minh, but it is attractive because you can drink classic cocktails made by best bartenders.
There is no sign so it can be a little confusing on your first visit. An incongruous wardrobe on one side of a dark building has the entrance to TU BAR. Opening the wardrobe-like entrance door reveals a hanging suits inside, and another door inside.
When I entered there, I was surprised by how dark the interior was. The bar tables were arranged in a circle in the center, and the dark atmosphere was illuminated only in certain areas with lights, creating a very luxurious atmosphere.
My wife and I visited there a little after 8pm on Sunday without a reservation, but luckily it was fully booked after 10pm, so we were able to grab a seat. We were shown to our seats and given hot towels to wash our hands with and glasses of water.
TU BAR doesn't have a menu, so you can just tell the bartender the name of the cocktail you want to drink. If you don't know the name of the cocktail, just tell him in detail what you like and he will make it for you. I ordered Black Russian as my first cocktail of that day.
The Black Russian was served in a uniquely shaped glass with an ice ball. It is a vodka-based cocktail that usually used Kahlua, but here they used Mr. Black. It was less sweet than when Kahlua was used, and the dark chocolate flavor and coffee aroma were strong, giving it a more luxurious feel.
Most of TU BAR's cocktails are priced around 300,000VND, which is quite expensive considering the cost of Vietnam, but they uniquely pair their cocktails with snacks. The Black Russian came with a Watermelon Salad made with watermelon, mint leaves, ricotta cheese, and chocolate syrup.
Before receiving the snacks, the staff brought a tray, and we could choose the chopsticks, fork, and rests that we liked. The rests were quite cute. My wife especially liked them.
My wife asked for a light and sweet cocktail, and the bartender made a peach-flavored cocktail called Mong Mo(Dream). It tasted like a Japanese chuhai made with sochu, soda water and fruit juice. The pairing was Mix Fried, which consisted of fried chestnuts and burdock.
For my second cocktail, I ordered Long Island Iced Tea. It is a cocktail that is quite strong, as it is made by mixing various spirits such as tequila, rum, and vodka with lime juice and cola, and has an ABV of over 20.
Long Island Iced Tea is served in a thin glass. The refreshing lime flavor and the sweetness of the coke mask the high alcohol content, making it easy to drink. It was much stronger than it looks, so when I drank it all, I started to feel a little bit drunk.
Long Island Iced Tea was served with Brie Cheese & Crackers. Melted Brie cheese topped with honey, nuts, and garlic and crackers were served on a small hot pan. It was a perfect snack to the strong cocktail.
#2. Cocktail Bar TU BAR Menu
TU BAR is a unique cocktail bar without a menu. Considering the cost of Ho Chi Minh, the prices are quite high, but the skilled bartenders make whiskey or cocktails to order and provide snacks that go well with the drinks. Snacks that can be prepared with ingredients available in the store, such as ramen or cold plates, can be ordered separately from the cocktails.
Mong Mo(Dream): 320,000VND
Mix Fried: 0VND
Black Russian: 300,000VND
Watermelon Salad: 0VND
Long Island Iced Tea: 300,000VND
Brie Cheese & Cracker: 0VND
Including the 5% service charge, the bill came to 966,000VND, which is quite high. However, the luxurious atmosphere, excellent staff service, and high-quality cocktails compared to most bars in Ho Chi Minh made me very satisfied. If you want to taste good cocktails in a nice atmosphere, I highly recommend visiting Tu Bar.
