#1. District 7, Phu My Hung Japanese Restaurant Oni Sushi Review
Japanese restaurant Oni Sushi is located between Paris Baguette and Korean style Chinese restaurant Sang Chai in Phu My Hung Sky Garden Apartment in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City. This restaurant is popular with people living in the area because can enjoy plenty of tuna sashimi and sushi at a reasonable price.
The first floor has a counter and kitchen, and there is a table for dining on the second floor. Three friends and I visited on a Saturday evening and settled down in a room in the corner of the second floor.
When you sit down and place your order, they serve rakkyo, pickled radish, salad and miso soup according to the number of people. The salad with yogurt dressing was ordinary, but the miso soup with the rich flavor and aroma of crustaceans was quite delicious.
Oni sushi sells canned Tiger beer and Sapporo draft beer for the same price of 50,000VND. If it's the same price, of course, have to order Sapporo draft beer. I liked that the price of Sapporo draft beer was cheaper than other restaurants nearby.
On this day, I ordered the Bluefin Tuna Gold Set(for 3-4 people) and the first dish was Spicy Raw Fish Salad. It was a decent dish with cabbage, lettuce, onions, sprouts, salmon, and tuna for drink.
The second dish was Assorted Sushi. It consists of flounder, salmon, shrimp, soy sauce raw shrimp, egg, fried tofu, beef, crab meat, salmon aburi mayo, and futomaki, and it was not bad.
The third and main dish of that day was Assorted Tuna Sashimi. It is composed of Sunazuri, Otoro, Chutoro, Setoro, Mekatoro, and Akami, and each part is thickly sliced.
Otoro(Fatty Tuna), which is definitely an expensive part, is visually quite beautiful. The marbling was densely distributed, so it had a rich flavor and melted in my mouth. It was a pity that I could only eat one piece of expensive cuts such as sunazuri, otoro, and chutoro.
I was able to eat two pieces each of inexpensive cuts such as setoro, mekatoro, and akami, but the setoro was delicious because it was moderately oily.
The fourth and fifth dishes were Soy Sauce Raw Shrimp and Shrimp Tempura. The soy sauce raw shrimp seemed to be handmade using tiger shrimp, and the texture and taste were good, but the shrimp tempura was soggy and not very good, probably because of the product used.
The sixth dish was Grilled Salmon Head. It was large in size, had a lot of meat on it, and had a savory and salty taste that made it a good side dish for drinks.
The seventh dish was Grilled Butter Abalone. It was small and nothing special, just edible. Still, I ordered the Bluefin Tuna Gold Set and it was a good feeling as it came with a variety of dishes.
The eighth dish was Cold Soba Noodles. The sweet, refreshing and salty broth along with the umami flavor of katsuobushi were quite delicious. I think it would have been more delicious if it had been a little less sweet.
The ninth and final dish was Spicy Fish Stew. After ate only cold food, when I drank hot soup with a spicy and rich taste, I felt so good. I thought I had to choose between cold soba noodles and spicy fish stew for my meal, but I didn't know they would serve both. The composition of the Bluefin Tuna Gold Set was better than I expected.
#2. Japanese Restaurant Oni Sushi Menu
Oni Sushi sells cost-effective lunch sets and dinner sets that are great for dining alone. The sushi is not bad, but the generous tuna sashimi set is more good, so every time I visit, I order a tuna sashimi set suitable for the number of people and have a meal and a drink. The prices of alcohol are also reasonable compared to other restaurants nearby, making it a good restaurant to visit for a casual drink.
Three friends and I visited on a Saturday evening and ordered the following for a meal and drinks.
Bluefin Tuna Gold Set: 2,500,000VND
Cham Soju: 150,000VND x 7 EA = 1,050,000VND
Sapporo Draft Beer: 50,000VND x 3 EA = 150,000VND
For a total of 3,700,000VND, I was able to enjoy plenty of soju and beer with tuna sashimi as a side dish for a cheaper price than I thought. Oni Sushi's alcohol prices are not bad compared to other nearby restaurants, and the tuna sashimi is fresh and of good quality, but the price is reasonable, so it's a good restaurant to visit when you're hungry for tuna sashimi.
