Updated: Apr 2

#1. District 7, Doya Jjamppong Phu My Hung Branch Review

There are nearly ten Korean style Chinese restaurants in Phu My Hung, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, and among them, the recently opened Doya Jjamppong Phu My Hung branch has already become famous through word of mouth, saying that its Jjamppong is delicious.

As a restaurant that has just opened, the interior is clean and has a retro yet bright interior that suits the tastes of young people, breaking away from the old-fashioned atmosphere of existing Chinese restaurants. Maybe that's why there seem to be more young customers than other Chinese restaurants around here.

Pickled radish and kimchi are served as basic side dishes. I always want to eat kimchi when I eat greasy Chinese food at a Korean style Chinese restaurant, but this restaurant serves kimchi as a basic side dish, which is nice. I was surprised because they didn't provide onions and chunjang, thinking it was a heresy, but it turned out that you can get them yourself from the self-service bar, so I was able to take them if I needed them.

At the self-serve bar, you can eat as much as you like, from pickled radish, kimchi, onions, and white rice. You can eat white rice for free without having to pay extra, then mix the rice with Black bean noodles or eat it with Jjamppong soup. How gracious is this?

I had pickled radish and kimchi as a snacks, drank Tsingtao bottled beer, and waited for the food I ordered to be served. I really like Tsingtao beer, but I heard that sales have plummeted since the recent uproar in China. However, they did not lower the price and sell it normally. Anyway, I keep thinking of Tsingtao when it comes to Chinese food.

After drinking beer and waiting for about 10 minutes, the long-awaited Doya Jjamppong Big Size arrived. This restaurant's main jjamppong is made with squid, pork, and vegetables in a clean and rich broth, and the portion size is huge.

As expected, I ordered a Big Size and the portion was huge. There are plenty of ingredients, including pork, squid, wood ear mushrooms, chives, and onions, so you can barely see the soup. For a jjamppong, the broth was not too spicy or strong, but was moderately spicy, rich, and clean, which was really attractive.

I thought it would be boring to just eat Jjamppong, so I ordered a mini size sweet and sour pork. It's not a large portion, but ten pieces is enough for a solo meal with Jjajangmyeon or Jjamppong. It comes topped with sweet sauce and sprinkled with cabbage, carrots, wood ear mushrooms, and almonds.

It tastes a little different from the sweet and sour pork that I have usually eaten so far. It is made of large pieces of pork wrapped in a crispy batter that tastes like Cheetos powder. The sweet and sour sauce and the chunks of meat that are not tough and soft compared to the size are quite attractive.

Doya Jjamppong is a Jjamppong restaurant that recently opened in Phu My Hung, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City. It is a wonderful restaurant that I was most satisfied with among the Chinese restaurants I recently visited in Ho Chi Minh City. I found it quite attractive to be able to eat mini sweet and sour pork for those who eat alone, or to eat as much white rice, pickled radish and onions as I could without worrying about from the self-service bar.

#2. District 7, Doya Jjamppong Phu My Hung Branch Menu

Doya Jjamppong does not have a diverse menu to compare other Korean style Chinese restaurants, but it has most of the basic foods that people often order. The food prices are similar or slightly cheaper than other restaurants, making it a good restaurant to visit when you're craving Black Bean Noodles or Jjamppong. Since it opened not long ago, the interior of the restaurant is clean, the staff is well-trained and very friendly, and the Black Bean Noodles and Jjamppong, which are the basics of a Korean style Chinese restaurant, are delicious, so it is well worth a visit.

I visited to dine alone on a weekday evening and ordered the following.

  1. Doya Jjamppong(Big Size): 190,000VND

  2. Sweet and Sour Pork(Mini Size): 200,000VND

  3. Tsingtao Beer: 80,000VND

The total price was 470,000 VND, which price is not low for a meal, but considering the amount and taste of the food, it was not a waste at all, and it was nice to be able to have a satisfying meal at a reasonable price. People may have different tastes for the Jjamppong and sweet and sour pork that are different from other places and can only be tasted here, but if you fall in love with the taste, there is a definite charm that will make you a regular at Doya Jjamppong.
