#1 District 3, Local Restaurant BUN BO HUE HUONG GIANG Review
BUN BO HUE HUONG GIANG is located in District 3, near Tao Dan Park and 23th September Park in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. This is one of the few local famous Bun Bo Hue restaurants in downtown Ho Chi Minh, where you can enjoy a generous portion of delicious Bun Bo Hue at a reasonable price.
It had a typical local restaurant atmosphere, but it was quite clean. I visited alone on a Wednesday evening, and sat down at an empty table. It was definitely a restaurant not well known to foreigners, so there were only locals around.
In front of the kitchen, a shelf neatly organized with the each toppings stands out. From the left, they are Bap(Shank), Gau(Flank), Ve(Brisket), and Gan(Tendon). Personally, I prefer Bap(Shank) and Gau(Flank) as toppings for rice noodles or bun bo hue.
Although it is not on the menu, they also sell Tra Da(Iced Tea) for 5,000VND. They also sell soft drinks and fruit juices, but I think the savory iced tea goes best with rice noodles and bun bo hue.
For dinner that day, I ordered Bun Bo Hue - Bo(Brisket). This is the restaurant's most basic menu, and it was quite filling with a generous amount of brisket toppings at a reasonable price of 70,000VND.
It comes with vegetables such as bean sprouts, banana flower, Thai basil, lime, and chili slices, and there are chopped chili peppers on the table. If there are no vegetables you dislike, it is good to add all the vegetables, including herbs. You can adjust the spiciness appropriately with chopped chili and sliced chili, and squeeze lime to remove the greasy and add a refreshing taste, making the meal even more delicious.
With the savory and spicy flavor of the beef broth with lemongrass, chili oil, and Mam Ruoc sauce, the bun bo hue was a colorful and harmonious meal, with the texture, flavor, and freshness of the vegetables added.
#2. BUN BO HUE HUONG GIANG Menu
BUN BO HUE HUONG GIANG is a famous restaurant for locals, but not well known to foreigners. Since all the menus are written only in Vietnamese, it may be a little difficult to order. It is also okay to order the Bo with brisket topping, which is the most basic menu of this restaurant, at 70,000VND. The basic base of Bun Bo Hue is the same, and the price varies depending on the type and number of toppings.
I visited alone for dinner on a Wednesday evening and ordered as follows:
Bun Bo Hue - Bo(Brisket): 70,000VND
Tra Da(Iced Tea): 5,000VND
Kanh Lanh(Wet Wipes): 3,000VND
For a total of 78,000VND, I was able to enjoy a full meal of authentic Bun Bo Hue. BUN BO HUE HUONG GIANG is located a bit far from the city’s tourist attractions, so it may be difficult to visit, but it is located about 800m from Bui Vien Walking Street, so it is worth a visit if you want to try authentic local style Bun Bo Hue.
