#1. District 3, Hanoi-style Rice Noodles Pho Bo Phu Gia Review
Pho Bo Phu Gia, a Hanoi-style rice noodle restaurant, is located near the 5-star hotel La Vela Saigon in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City. Although it is not a well-known restaurant to foreigners, it is a famous restaurant among locals who live nearby and there are almost always empty seats when you visit during meal times.
At the entrance of the small restaurant, there is a small stall preparing rice noodles, and behind it, tables are crowded together in a narrow space. Because business is so good, they have a separate space for dining in another building right next door.
Even though there are many people eating in or taking out, it takes less than 5 minutes for the rice noodles to come out once you order them. Looking at the stall, you can see the pot of hot water for boiling the noodles, the pot of meat broth, the various beef parts used as toppings, vegetables, etc. are neatly arranged, and you can see why the rice noodles come out so quickly.
On the table were chili slices, lime, pickled garlic, nuoc mam, black pepper, chili sauce, chopsticks, wet towels, toothpicks, etc. It's hard to say that the hygiene was good, but it was acceptable for a local restaurant.
They sell a few drinks, including soft drinks and Red Bull, but I ordered Tra Da(Iced Tea), which goes well with rice noodles. They filled a plastic disposable cup with ice and poured the tea into it.
I visited with a friend on a Saturday evening for dinner and ordered two bowls of Pho Dac Biet(Special Pho). As expected of Hanoi-style rice noodles, it was filled with green onions and onions and was generously topped with Tai(Raw Sirloin), Nam(Lean Beef), Gau(Brisket Flat), and Ve(Brisket Point).
Unlike the southern region(Ho Chi Minh-style) rice noodles, the beef broth was attractive because it had a deep savory flavor without much of a sweet and sour taste. You could enjoy the rice noodles even more deliciously by adding pickled garlic, pepper, chili slices, lime, and chili sauce to your taste.
Pho Bo Phu Gia pre-input cilantro and other herbs into the rice noodles. So, you can avoid the hassle of adding the herbs yourself, but if there are any herbs that you cannot eat, you should let them know in advance when ordering.
#2. Hanoi-style Rice Noodles Pho Bo Phu Gia Menu
Pho Bo Phu Gia is located in the heart of downtown Ho Chi Minh City and is a popular restaurant among locals for its authentic Hanoi-style pho at a reasonable price, although not cheap. You can order one of the following: Tai(Raw Sirloin), Nam(Lean Beef), Gau(Brisket Flat), and Ve(Brisket Point) each for 70,000VND, or choose the Dac Biet(special) that includes everything for 95,000VND.
I visited with a friend on Saturday evening and ordered the following for dinner.
Pho Dac Biet(Special Pho): 95,000VND x 2 EA = 190,000VND
Tra Da(Tra Da): 3,000VND x 2 EA = 6,000VND
Wet Wipes: 2,000VND x 3 EA = 6,000VND
For a total of 202,000VND, my friend and I were able to enjoy a full meal of authentic Hanoi-style pho. Pho Bo Phu Gia is not well known to foreigners, but for locals, it is one of the best Hanoi-style pho restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City. Although the location is not great, it is worth a visit if you want to visit a pho restaurant that locals enjoy.
