#1. District 2, Thao Dien Union Jack's Fish & Chips Review
Union Jack's Fish & Chips is located in an alley where Starbucks is located in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City. The name of the restaurant is Union Jack, the name of the British flag, so anyone can tell that it serves British food.
The interior has the feel of a ship's cabin, and Union Jacks are hung here and there to emphasize that it is a British restaurant. It's a shame there's no air conditioning, but fans are placed everywhere, so it's not too hot to eat around sunset.
It was a bit disappointing that they didn't sell beer from the UK. Still, there was Huda draft beer that went well with the fish and chips, so I ordered that. It is a lager beer with a rich golden color and not strong aroma and taste. Lager goes better with fish and chips, which do not have a strong taste, than ale.
You can choose between three types of fish SNAPPER, HAKE, and Ling Cod, and you can choose between Chips and Fries as a side. I chose Ling Cod(Medium) with Chips on the side and Tartar Original sauce.
The fried fish made with Ling Cod has a thickness that is completely different from the thinner ones Asian restaurants, and has a light taste yet chewy texture. The fried batter was also made with beer-based batter, giving it a thick and crispy texture that made me feel like it was a man's food. Considering the Chips, the portion size is really large, so if you're a woman, you can order a small size, and if you're a man, you can order a medium size and you'll be full.
I didn't want to eat just the fried fish, so I additionally ordered Unbattered Sausage. It was okay to just eat the sausage without any fried coating. But as for sausages, German sausages are much tastier than British sausages.
There is black pepper, salt, hot sauce, ketchup, barbecue sauce, and soy sauce on the table, so you can sprinkle it on your food to suit your taste. Salt and pepper go best with light fried fish.
To be honest, fish and chips are not a special dish. I can't say that Union Jack's Fish & Chips has a particularly good taste, but since the fish and chips sold at other restaurants in Vietnam are very expensive and in poor condition, but compare with there, here is cheap, generous in quantity, and delicious. So I think there is loved a lot by people.
#2. Union Jack's Fish & Chips Menu
Union Jack's Fish & Chips sells fish and chips made from three types of fish, as well as sausages, meat pies, and brunch menus. This is a restaurant where you can taste authentic British cuisine that is far from a healthy food with vegetables and nutritional balance.
I visited on a Tuesday evening with the intention of having a meal and a beer, and ordered the following.
Ling Cod(Medium): 270,000VND
Unbattared Sausage(100g): 80,000VND
Huda Draft Beer(Pint): 50,000VND x 2 EA = 100,000VND
For a total of 450,000VND, I was able to get a cold beer and some decent fish and chips. I can't say that Union Jack's Fish & Chips has a particularly good taste, but since the fish and chips sold at other restaurants in Vietnam are very expensive and in poor condition, but compare with there, here is cheap, generous in quantity, and delicious.
