#1. District 2, Thao Dien Tonkatsu Restaurant CUTLET SPRING Review
Tonkatsu restaurant CUTLET SPRING is located in an alley behind the Masteri An Phu complex in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City. It is famous among Koreans living in Ho Chi Minh City and local residents for its good Japanese tonkatsu. Personally, I think it is one level higher than the famous tonkatsu restaurant Fujiro, and it is the restaurant where you can taste the most delicious tonkatsu in Ho Chi Minh City.
I visited on a Wednesday evening after work to have a meal alone. They used to do business near the Mia Saigon Hotel but recently moved their shop, making it much more accessible. The interior is bright and cute, much better than before.
Sapporo draft beer is the only alcoholic beverage sold at CUTLET SPRING. They serve cold Sapporo draft beer in a cold cup, which is really nice to drink after work. The price of draft beer is also cheap at 50,000VND, so it is a good place to visit to drink beer with tonkatsu.
I ordered the Half Half Tonkatsu for dinner. It was generously comprised of pork loin tonkatsu, pork tenderloin tonkatsu, cabbage salad, rice, miso soup, kimchi, soybean paste chili paper, Himalayan pink salt, and tonkatsu sauce. Black sesame dressing was served as a sauce to sprinkle on the cabbage salad.
CUTLET SPRING uses homemade breadcrumbs, so the batter is crispy and soft, giving it a nice texture without hurting mouth. The pork loin tonkatsu is juicy and has a nice texture without being tough.
The pork tenderloin tonkatsu had a soft texture and a light flavor, and was definitely more luxurious than the pork loin tonkatsu. I enjoyed it by putting a moderate amount of mustard on it and dipping it in tonkatsu sauce, and it was also good to enjoy it for a simple taste by just dipping it in Himalayan pink salt.
I didn't want to just eat the tonkatsu, so I ordered a cold soba more. The chewy texture noodles were generously served in a refreshing slightly frozen broth. The cold soba at CUTLET SPRING is also one of the best in Ho Chi Minh City, so I can't help but order the cold soba every time I visit.
CUTLET SPRING is a tonkatsu restaurant run by a young Korean owner. It offers really high-quality tonkatsu at a reasonable price, so it is definitely worth a visit for those living in Ho Chi Minh City.
#2. Tonkatsu Restaurant CUTLET SPRING Menu
CUTLET SPRING offers most of the menus you would expect from a tonkatsu restaurant, including pork tenderloin tonkatsu, half half tonkatsu, chicken katsu, tonkatsu curry rice bowl, and cold soba. There is also a la carte menus, such as pork tenderloin tonkatsu, black tiger shrimp katsu, cheese tonkatsu, and extra curry sauce, so if you feel like it's not enough, you can order more a single menu. Overall, the menu prices are reasonable, and since VAT is not added, it feels cheaper than other Japanese restaurants.
I visited alone for dinner on a Wednesday evening and ordered as follows:
Half Half Tonkatsu: 180,000VND
Cold Soba: 160,000VND
Sapporo Draft Beer: 50,000VND
For a good price of 390,000VND, I was able to eat a hearty tonkatsu and a refreshing cold soba. CUTLET SPRING is an attractive restaurant where you can taste high-quality tonkatsu at a reasonable price. I personally think it is a step above Fujiro, the most famous tonkatsu restaurant in Ho Chi Minh. If you like Japanese tonkatsu, it is a place in Ho Chi Minh that is worth visiting even if it is a little far away.
