#1. District 2, Thao Dien Rice Noodles Pho Hang Pho Review
Pho Hang Pho, a rice noodle restaurant, is located in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, near Thao Dien Pearl and subway station. Although this restaurant has only recently opened, it is popular with both locals and foreigners because it offers a clean and classy atmosphere and authentic northern-style rice noodles. The prices are higher than other rice noodle restaurants.
I visited on a Friday evening to dine alone and took a seat in the corner. The modern interior with a touch of traditional Vietnamese architecture gave it a very clean yet classy feel.
They sell several drinks, including yongan & chrysanthemum tea, mulbbery juice, coke, and beer. I ordered the lotus tea, it was similar to the Tra Da(Iced Tea) that I usually drink at local restaurants, but the subtle floral scent and rich green tea flavor made it taste more luxurious than I expected.
I ordered the signature menu, BEEF HEEL MUSCLE PHO. It is a traditional Hanoi-style rice noodle topped with thin beef heel muscle shank, and instead of bean sprouts, there is a lot of green onion. Unlike other rice noodles restaurants, they do not provide herbs such as Thai basil or culantro.
Instead of bean sprouts or herbs, I could have added chili slices, lime, chili sauce, pickled garlic, pepper, etc. on the table to my taste. I personally like the spicy taste of the chili slices, and the sourness and flavor of the lime and pickled garlic.
It is characterized by a rich broth made by boiling bones and meat to the point where it feels a little salty, and although the taste is strong, it is appealing because you can feel the flavor of the meat. The level of the broth's taste was raised by adding a moderate amount of chili slices to increase the spiciness and adjusting the acidity with lime and pickled garlic.
Thin beef heel muscle shank was topped, and the chewy texture went surprisingly well with the soft noodles. The meat was really good because it was soaked in rich broth.
The amount of rice noodles is not that much, so it may be just right for women, but it may be a little too little for men. It seems like a good idea to add meat toppings or order CHINESE OIL STICK(Quay) to eat with rice noodles.
I soaked the quay in rice noodles broth and ate it. When eaten on its own, it is hard and tasteless, but the quay, which absorbs the various tastes and aromas of the rich broth, is another delicacy you can taste when eating rice noodles.
#2. Rice Noodles Pho Hang Pho Menu
Hanoi-style rice noodles restaurant Pho Hang Pho is quite expensive compared to other rice noodles restaurants in the area. However, the rich broth made by boiling bones and meat here gives great satisfaction to visitors. The menu is simple: rice noodles, a few additional toppings, quay, and drinks. Since the portion of rice noodles is not large, it is recommended for men to add toppings or order quay.
I visited for dinner alone on a Friday evening and ordered as follows:
BEEF HEEL MUSCLE PHO: 110,000VND
CHINESE OIL STICK: 3,000VND
ICE LOTUS TEA: 5,000VND
COLD WIPES: 2,000VND
I was able to have a satisfying meal with a total of 120,000VND. The price seemed a little high, but it was not bad to be able to taste high-quality Hanoi-style pho in a classy and clean restaurant. Pho Hang Pho is a proper northern-style pho restaurant and is worth a visit.
