#1. District 2, Thao Dien Italian Restaurant Chang's Bistro & Cakes Review
Chang's Bistro & Cakes is an Italian restaurant run by an Italian. It is located right next to the Saigon River in Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, and has a great atmosphere. For a restaurant located in Thao Dien, the menu prices are reasonable and the taste is excellent, so I visit here occasionally when I'm craving Italian food.
The restaurant is located in a corner of an alley near the Saigon River in Thao Dien, so you may hard to find here when you first visit. Rather than inside the building, it is better to grab an outdoor table located across the street where you can eat while looking at the Saigon River.
I visited alone for lunch after 2 o'clock, and even though it was late for lunch, most of the tables were filled with Western customers. The view of Landmark 81 across the Saigon River is quite impressive. If you visit in the evening, the building is lit up and you can enjoy a meal while enjoying the wonderful night view.
Chang's Bistro & Cakes uses the method of ordering by selecting separately pasta's sauce and noodle. The staff will show you and explain the different types of pasta noodles. If you are not sure, you can ask them to recommend noodles that go well with your chosen sauce. I chose the tagliatelle recommended by the staff to go well with the carbonara sauce.
When I visit an Italian restaurant, I should order wine. I ordered a glass of cheap red wine (Barramundi Shiraz). It was a good cost-effective red wine that was well chilled and had the right aroma and flavor.
I ordered Bruschetta as a starter. It's an Italian dish which is a baguette rubbed garlic and top it with olive oil, salt, pepper, tomatoes, basil, etc. It was a good starter.
It was quite delicious with the fragrant scent of olive oil and basil, fresh tomatoes, and seasoned with salt and pepper, and went well with red wine.
As I was almost finishing my bruschetta, the pasta I ordered came in a nice bowl. Tagliatelle was mixed with Carbonara containing Guanciale(a traditional Italian ham made from salted pork jowl), and sprinkled with plenty of Parmesan cheese, making the dish look quite violent.
It was truly a perfect carbonara with the rich, savory taste of egg yolk and Parmesan cheese combined with the luxurious salty taste of guanciale. Chang's Bistro & Cakes is a place where you can enjoy high-quality Italian food and wine at reasonable prices, making it a great restaurant to visit when you're in need of some Italian food in Ho Chi Minh City.
#2. Chang's Bistro & Cakes Menu
Chang's Bistro & Cakes is famous restaurant for its pasta and pho, and serves a variety of foods including salads, pancakes, waffles, and chicken wings. For a restaurant located in Thao Dien, District 2, the prices are not that high, so it is a great restaurant where you can enjoy quality dishes without any burden.
I visited alone during lunch time on a Sunday and ordered the food below.
Bruschetta: 75,000VND
Carbonara with Italian Guanciale: 195,000VND
Tagliatelle: 45,000VND
Red Wine(Barramundi Shiraz): 140,000VND x 2 Glasses = 280,000VND
A total of 595,000VND plus 8% VAT came out to 642,600VND. I drank two glasses of wine and the price was quite a bit higher than I expected, but can see that the food prices are not bad. Chang's Bistro & Cakes is a great restaurant where you can taste authentic pasta and a variety of Italian dishes at a reasonable price.
