#1. District 2, Thao Dien Handmade Burger Pingu's Burger Review
Handmade burger restaurant Pingu's Burger is located in the alley of Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City. Although it has only been open for a short time, word has already spread that its burgers are delicious in Thao Dien, a place with many handmade burger shops. It is a popular restaurant visited by more Westerners than locals or other foreigners, and is an attractive place where you can enjoy high-quality burgers at a reasonable price.
I visited alone on a Tuesday evening and sat in a corner of the restaurant. It is a fairly small restaurant with a few tables for dining. I could see more foreign customers than locals.
Unfortunately, the only beer they had was Tiger Beer. It would have been nice if they had a few more craft beers, but it was still a reasonable price of 35,000VND for a burger place, so it wasn't bad.
I ordered the Double Beef Burger. It has two 130g beef patties, and two slices of cheese lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pickles, BBQ sauce, inside the burger bun, so it was quite a large portion and looked violent.
The medium-cooked beef patty was tender and juicy, and melted cheese added to it could have made it feel greasy, but the freshness of the lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle, along with the sweet and sour BBQ sauce, made for a very good balance.
For the side, I ordered Salchipapa Fries. It's a Peruvian-style food which is French fries and spicy, salty sausage sprinkled with seasoning. It didn't taste anything special, but it looked like a good order when you're bored of just eating French fries.
When I finished my meal and paid the bill, they gave me a free serving of homemade vanilla ice cream. It is originally sold for 45,000VND. Although the portion was not large, it was sweet enough and refreshing, so It was good to finish off a heavy and greasy meal.
Pingu's Burger is run by a Vietnamese owner and has a lot of know-how for handmade burgers that has only been open for a few months. After trying the burger and side dishes, I could tell that it was much better than other poorly burger restaurants in Thao Dien.
#2. Handmade Burger Pingu's Burger Menu
The signature menu of Pingu's Burger is the Pingu Burger, which costs 180,000VND and comes with a 130g beef patty, bacon, fried egg, cheese, lettuce, and BBQ sauce. Considering the cost of Vietnam, the prices of burgers and sides are on the high side, but they are generous with good ingredients, so I was quite satisfied. However, it was a little disappointing that a handmade burger specialty store only sells canned Tiger beer.
I visited alone on Tuesday evening and ordered and ate as follows:
Double Beef Burger: 220,000VND
Salchipapa Fries: 69,000VND
Tiger Beer: 35,000VND
The total amount is 324,000VND, which is quite high considering the local prices in Vietnam. However, the quality and quantity of the burger, I think it is not a bad price. Pingu's Burger is a charming handmade burger restaurant that is visited more by Westerners than locals or other foreigners, and offers high-quality burgers at a reasonable price.
