#1. District 2, Thao Dien Bistro RUS THAO DIEN Review
Bistro RUS THAO DIEN is located in the alley where pork soup restaurant Su-Byeon and pork cutlet restaurant Cutlet Spring are located behind the Masteri An Phu apartment complex in Thao Dien, District 2. It's an attractive restaurant where you can enjoy decent wine at a reasonable price, and the food they serve, including sandwiches, pasta, and steak, is all excellent. Happy hour is available every day, including weekends, from 4 to 7 pm, where you can enjoy drinks, including wine and cocktails, at half price.
It is a small, upscale bistro with a wide variety of alcoholic beverages, including wine, whiskey, and cocktails. I visited on a Tuesday evening to dine alone and was seated at a corner table.
Next to the table, a wine cellar with transparent glass walls caught my eye. There was a wider variety of wine than I had expected, and the prices felt reasonable for Vietnam. If you visit during happy hour, from 4 to 7 pm, including weekends, you can enjoy wine at an even cheaper price, offering a 50% discount on alcoholic beverages such as wine and cocktails.
For my first wine, I ordered a glass of red wine, CASABLANCA CEFIRO RESERVA. It was an inexpensive Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon wine with moderate fruit flavors, a full body, and a spicy finish, which gave me a great satisfaction considering the price.
For my first dish, I ordered the CAPRESS SANDWICH. It was a unique sandwich with mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, and basil between ciabatta slices. It also came with a sweet and sour balsamic sauce to dip it in.
It felt like eating a caprese salad and an appetizer bread together, with basil, tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, salt, pepper, olive oil, etc. between ciabatta. The light, fresh, and clean taste was better than expected.
For my second dish, I ordered SHRIMP PESTO PASTA. It was basil pesto pasta made with spaghetti, basil pesto, olive oil, and parmesan cheese on a beautiful plate. It also had four grilled shrimps.
The salty yet savory flavors of basil and Parmesan cheese, along with the umami flavor of shrimp, made for a very satisfying meal. The rich, oily flavor, without being heavy, went well with the spicy red wine.
RUS THAO DIEN exceeded my expectations in everything from wine, food, atmosphere, and service. Although they charge service charge, general VAT, and alcohol VAT separately, it was a very satisfying as I was able to enjoy high-quality food and wine at a reasonable price compared to similar restaurants nearby.
#2. Bistro RUS THAO DIEN Menu
Bistro RUS THAO DIEN sells meals such as salads, sandwiches, pasta, and steaks, as well as snacks such as mixed nuts, mixed olives, sausages, and cheese. They also serve alcoholic beverages such as wine, whiskey, and cocktails. I was especially surprised at how reasonably priced and delicious the wines collected by the owner were for a restaurant in Vietnam. There were a variety of wines, from inexpensive to expensive, so there was a wide range of choices.
I visited on a Tuesday evening to dine alone and ordered as follows:
CAPRESE SANDWICH: 150,000VND
SHRIMP PESTO PASTA: 185,000VND
CASABLANCA CEFIRO RESERVA: 175,000VND x 50%(Happy Hour) = 87,500VND
MASSERIA LI VELI, ORION: 180,000VND x 50%(Happy Hour) = 90,000VND
Including 5% service charge, 8% general VAT, and 10% alcohol VAT, the total was 584,902VND, which was cheaper than I thought because I visited during happy hour and got wine at half price. RUS THAO DIEN exceeded my expectations in everything from wine, food, atmosphere, and service, and I was especially satisfied because it is one of the few places in Vietnam where you can enjoy wine at a reasonable price.
