#1. District 2, Rotating Sushi Bar MIKADO SUSHI Thao Dien Branch Review
Mikado Sushi, a Rotating Sushi Bar, operates about ten stores in Ho Chi Minh City alone, and is easily accessible as it is located in large shopping malls such as Thiso Mall and Aeon Mall. It is a famous franchise in Korea for its value-for-money sushi, and it is also popular in Vietnam because you can enjoy good sushi at a better price than most sushi restaurants.

As a restaurant that has only recently opened, the interior is clean and has the typical appearance of a rotating sushi bar. Since they do not take reservations, usually have to wait during meal times, but when we arrived before 6pm on Sunday, there was an empty seats, so my party and I were able to sit down right away.

As soon as I sat down, I was given a wet towel and a miso soup. There were containers of rakkyo, soy sauce, and wasabi on the table, as well as a kettle of cold tea, which I was able to use as much as I needed.

MIKADO SUSHI sells only a few soft drinks and kid drinks, and the only alcoholic beverage is Sapporo draft beer. A glass of Sapporo draft beer costs 50,000VND, which is quite cheap compared to other Japanese restaurants in Thao Dien.

I first ordered the single menu, otoro sashimi, along with Sapporo draft beer. Six pieces were served on a large plate, and it was reasonably priced compared to other Japanese restaurants, so it was worth ordering. The quality wasn't great, but it was oily and edible.

All the sushi is quite cheap at 27,000VND per plate. The appeal is that you can enjoy dozens of kinds of sushi, including salmon, salmon belly, squid, flounder, tuna belly, and swordfish belly, all for the low price of about 1USD.

The sushi neta was quite thick, so I could feel the right texture, and the shari was small but had a slightly soft texture, and the sweetness, sourness, and saltiness were all mild, so it was a decent taste that would not be too divisive.

Since the conveyor rail mainly features salmon sushi and inexpensive sushi that people often look for, if you don't see the sushi you want, you can order it directly from the staff.

On the rail, I saw a lot of fried tofu sushi, salmon, flounder, swordfish belly, and shrimp sushi, but I didn't see much bluefin tuna or wagyu sushi, so it seemed like it would be better to order directly from the staff rather than waiting.

I thought it would be boring to just eat sushi, so I ordered a plate of Shishamo Tempura. They cut four Shishamo Tempura in half and it was good. The salty taste of the fried food went really well with beer.

If you order the sushi you want from the staff, they will prepare it for you within 5 minutes. Although they do not use high-quality ingredients, it is definitely worth it to be able to taste tuna belly at a low price of 27,000VND.

Tuna tataki is neither here nor there, and is the worst sushi I had that day. The bluefin tuna belly, which costs the same, is much better.

Although the beef was a bit tough, the Wagyu sushi was quite tasty, as it had a meaty flavor and was topped with a sweet tare sauce.

Among the most delicious food I had at MIKADO SUSHI were the udon and amook(fish cake). This was also 27,000VND, the same price as the sushi. The combination of the salty and savory hot udon and the cold sushi was really good.

Three skewers of fish cake are served in a soup, and of course they use branded products, but they are much more delicious than any fish cake I have had in Vietnam. There are a few Japanese oden bars in Ho Chi Minh City, and this one is better texture and taste than the oden I had there.

I picked up the Seasoned Shrimp because I was curious about what it would taste like since it was dark red, but it tasted like Korean spicy marinated crab and was good, but it was too spicy and strong. It is recommended to eat it after remove some of the seasoning that is generously placed on top.

The most delicious sushi I had that day was the Aged Kimchi with Live Fish. Fermented kimchi coated with sesame oil was placed on top of the white fish. The savory and sour flavor of the fermented kimchi went surprisingly well with the sushi, and it was quite good.

To finish off the meal, I chose the Tuna Mayo Fried Tofu. It was light and not as heavy as it looked, which was nice to eat, as it had the flavor we all know so well.

My friend and I ordered 24 plates of sushi, udon, amook, otoro sashimi, shishamo tempura, and four glasses of Sapporo draft beer and had a full meal. I was surprised that the total price was cheaper than I expected including 8% general VAT and 10% alcohol VAT, which came to 1,377,760VND.

#2. MIKADO SUSHI Menu
MIKADO SUSHI has dozens of kinds of sushi, all priced at 27,000VND. It is quite cheap compared to other sushi restaurants around, but the taste is quite good for the price, so it is popular with local Vietnamese people also. There are also some a la carte menus, such as otoro sashimi and shishamo tempura, at good prices, and the prices of alcohol and drinks are also reasonable.

I visited with a friend on Sunday evening and had the following meal.
Sushi: 27,000VND x 26 EA = 702,000VND
Shishamo Tempura: 100,000VND
Otoro Sashimi: 270,000VND
Sapporo Draft Beer: 50,000VND x 4 EA = 200,000VND
I had a meal with a friend, and the total amount was 1,377,760VND, including general VAT 8% and alcohol VAT 10%, which was cheaper than I thought. Mikado Sushi is cheap, but the taste is excellent compared to the price, so it is definitely a restaurant with good value for money, and it is a good place to visit with family or friends without feeling burdened.
