#1. District 2, Binh Khanh Local Restaurant BUN BO HUE HANH Review
Local restaurant BUN BO HUE HANH is located behind the New City apartment complex in Binh Khanh, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City. This restaurant is famous among locals living nearby because here can get a hearty meal at a reasonable price. They also sell Bo Kho, a Vietnamese stew served with baguette bread, which is also quite delicious.
I visited alone on a Friday evening after work to have a meal and sat down in a corner. There is doing business in a makeshift building and has a typical local restaurant atmosphere. It is located in Binh Khanh of District 2, where many locals live, and most of the customers eating there are locals who live nearby.
On the table were various sauces such as chili sauce, hoisin sauce, nuoc mam, chopped chili peppers, chili slices, lime, etc to put in the bun bo hue along with a spoon holder.
In addition to soft drinks like Coke and Red Bull, they also sell a variety of drinks, including coffee, orange juice, coconut, and passion fruit juice. I ordered Da Chanh(Lime Juice) to drink with my Bun Bo Hue, and they filled a large plastic disposable cup for me. It was a simple drink made with lime juice, water, and sugar.
For my first dish, I ordered the restaurant's famous menu, Bun Bo To Dac Biet. Which is a large bowl filled with shank, brisket, ham, and other toppings, and served with vegetables such as onions, Thai basil, banana blossoms, and bean sprouts.
The broth was spicy and savory, with a rich aroma and an attractive flavor, made with beef broth, lemongrass, chili oil, and mam ruoc sauce. It was delicious on its own, but can make it even more delicious by adding various vegetables and sauces.
I added various vegetables, lime juice, and chopped chili peppers to enjoy a variety of harmonious flavors with the texture and flavor of the herbs, as well as the spiciness and sourness.
For my second dish, I ordered Dac Biet Bo Kho. Bo Kho is a stew made with beef and vegetables in a tomato-based broth. It is usually served with baguette bread, rice, or noodles. The special Bo Kho came with thin rice noodles.
I should have ordered Banh Mi Bo Kho, which comes with a baguette instead of noodles, but the thin rice noodles soak up the sweet and sour tomato-based broth, which has a different appeal than dipping the baguette in it.
Adding various herbs and eating noodles and beef together may seem like an odd combination, but it was surprisingly delicious. The tender texture and flavor of the beef and carrot chunks simmered with spices in a large pot gave me great satisfaction.
#2. Local Restaurant BUN BO HUE HANH Menu
Local restaurant BUN BO HUE HANH sells Bun Bo Hue, a rice noodles from Hue in central Vietnam, Mi Quang, a spicy noodles from Hoi An, and Bo Kho, a stew eaten with baguette bread. It is located in the Binh Khanh area of District 2, where many locals live, so the prices are quite reasonable, as expected from a local restaurant. It is not well known to foreigners, but it is famous among locals as a delicious Bun Bo Hue restaurant.
I visited alone for dinner on a Friday evening and ordered as follows:
Bun Bo To Dac Biet: 70,000VND
Dac Biet Bo Kho: 70,000VND
Da Chanh(Lime Juice): 12,000VND
I was able to enjoy a full meal for a very reasonable price of 152,000VND. BUN BO HUE HANH is located in Binh Khanh of District 2, there is a slightly awkward place to visit, but it is a really attractive restaurant where you can have a hearty and delicious meal, such as bun bo hue or bo kho, for less than 70,000VND.
