#1. District 2, An Phu Jjamppong Restaurant Truyen Thuyet Champong Review
Truyen Thuyet Champong operates seven stores in and around Ho Chi Minh City, including An Phu in District 2, Phu My Hung in District 7, District Tan Binh, District Binh Tan, Thu Duc City, Bien Hoa City, and Binh Duong City. In particular, it is famous for its brisket jjamppong, which is visited by more locals than Koreans because the portions are generous and delicious at a reasonable price.
The atmosphere of Truyen Thuyet Champong stores does not differ depending on the region, and the taste of the food is almost the same. I visited the restaurant located in An Phu, District 2 to eat alone on a Tuesday evening, and even though it was a weekday, I saw many customers eating quite a bit.
They sell quite a variety of soju and makgeolli, but there is only one type of beer, Tiger Beer. Tiger beer is of course not bad, but I thought it would be better if they sold a variety of beers such as Saigon Special or Tsingtao.
When you order food, like in a Korean-Chinese restaurant, they serve pickled radish, onion, and black bean paste as side dishes. The chunjang(black bean paste) was a little thinner and had less of a salty and dry taste and more of a sweet and savory taste, so it was good for dipping onions and pickled radish.
I ordered the Truyen Thuyet Champong signature dish, Brisket Jjamppong. Due to the high fat content of brisket(or beef belly), it has more oily than regular jjamppong, but it has a deep and savory taste. Even though the Jjamppong here you order normal size, it is so generous that it is difficult to eat it all by oneself.
It contains a generous amount of various vegetables such as bok choy, onions, paprika, zucchini, mushrooms, with seafood and brisket. The spicy jjamppong soup was neutralized by the oily brisket, and the spiciness counteracted the greasiness of the brisket, so the balance was quite good.
I was originally going to order a mini sweet and sour pork, but they gave me three fried dumplings as a service, so I didn't order it. The fried dumplings are nothing special, just like at a local Chinese restaurant, so I don't think I would order them separately. It is better to order the delicious sweet and sour pork.
There are many good Korean-Chinese restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City. However, I personally think that there are two restaurants that have their own unique characteristics and are good at making delicious jjamppong: Truyen Thuyet Champong and Doya Jjambbong. Truyen Thuyet Champong is a jjamppong restaurant that is definitely worth a visit if you are a jjamppong fanatic because you can taste unique jjamppong that you cannot find in other Korean-Chinese restaurants.
#2. Truyen Thuyet Champong Menu
Truyen Thuyet Champong is a Korean-Chinese restaurant that mainly serves jjambbong, including brisket jjamppong. Although it also sells jjajangmyeon and some Chinese dishes, the menu is not as diverse as other Chinese restaurants. Considering the prices in Vietnam, they are a bit higher, but the portions are generous and the staff service is excellent, at a level higher than that of most local Chinese restaurants in Korea. I am always satisfied every time I visit.
I visited alone for dinner on a Tuesday evening and ordered the following.
Brisket Jjamppong: 200,000VND
Fried Dumplings: 0VND
Tiger Beer: 40,000VND
A total of 240,000VND plus 8% VAT came out to 259,200VND. I was able to have a satisfying meal at a reasonable price. If you want to taste truly delicious Jjamppong in Ho Chi Minh City, I highly recommend visiting Truyen Thuyet Champong.
