#1. District 2, An Phu BBQ Restaurant King Stone Review
BBQ restaurant King Stone is located on Song Hanh Street, An Phu, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City. This recently opened Korean BBQ restaurant is so popular that it's hard to find an empty seat even on weekday evenings.
Inside the ground floor of the restaurant is a kitchen and a warehouse where meat is aged. The entire kitchen and warehouse are fully visible thanks to the large glass wall, and you can see the kitchen staff cutting meat and plating it on plates.
I made a reservation to visit with colleagues on a Friday evening to have pork belly with soju. When I arrived there, most of the seats were already occupied and even the empty seats had reservation signs.
King Stone sets out a few personal side dishes, such as green onion salad, onion soy sauce, and ssam sauce, according to the number of people. The great advantage is that you can eat as much green onion salad and onion soy sauce without worrying about others. If you run out of food, they provide free refills, so you can have a pleasant meal.
King Stone's famous giant grilling stone is placed in the center of the large table. There are several basic side dishes such as ssam, salad, and pickled vegetables, but in fact, compared to other Korean restaurants, there are not many side dishes.
For the first order, I ordered 2 servings each of Aging Bonein Pork Belly, Aging Pork Jowl, Aging Pork Neck. The staff grilled the meat on a stone plate with a little salt and pepper sprinkled on top. The ageing pork neck, which is difficult to taste elsewhere, was definitely attractive.
There are not many types of side dishes compared to other Korean restaurants, but when you see the cabbage kimchi, green onion kimchi, and seasoned bean sprouts grilled in pork fat on a large stone plate, you won't be able to think of any other side dishes. The green onion kimchi roasted in pork fat was really delicious.
When the meat is properly cooked, the staff cuts it into bite-size pieces. All the meats I ate that day were delicious, but the chewy, ageing pork neck was the most delicious. I was able to feel the distinct charm of pork neck, which is different from pork belly, pork jowl.
I can't help but order stew at a BBQ restaurant. I ordered Pork Kimchi Stew and Beef Soybean Paste Stew. Both were delicious, but I personally felt that the kimchi stew was more delicious because it had a slightly sour kimchi and had a sour and spicy taste.
For the second order, I ordered 2 servings each of Aging Pork Neck, Aging Bonein Pork Belly, Aging Pork Cheek. The amount of pork per person is not small, depending on the kind 160g to 200g. However, when I drink alcohol, I end up eating more than I normally do.
After eating all the meat, I ordered two servings of cheese kimchi fried rice for dessert. The staff made it delicious and served it to me, so I almost regretted it if I didn't eat it because I was full. King Stone is a very attractive restaurant that has many special advantages compared to other BBQ restaurants, such as kimchi grilled in pork fat, aging pork neck, and cheese kimchi fried rice.
#2. BBQ Restaurant King Stone Menu
King Stone, a BBQ restaurant, mainly sells aged pork, but also sells duck and beef. The weekday lunch specials are affordable and well-organized, so many nearby office workers visit during their lunch hours. This restaurant is also popular with young locals as it is a restaurant where you can taste delicious Korean food at a reasonable price. The set menu is also good, making it great to order when visiting on the weekend or in the evening.
On a Friday evening, six of my co-workers and I visited and ordered the foods below.
Aging Bonein Pork Belly: 280,000VND x 4 EA = 1,120,000VND
Aging Pork Neck: 240,000VND x 4 EA = 960,000VND
Aging Pork Jowl: 340,000VND x 2 EA = 680,000VND
Aging Pork Cheek: 340,000VND x 2 EA = 680,000VND
Beef Soybean Paste Stew: 120,000VND
Pork Kimchi Stew: 120,000VND
Kimchi Cheese Fried Rice: 80,000VND x 2 EA = 160,000VND
Sapporo Draft Beer: 60,000VND x 5 EA = 300,000VND
Jinro Soju: 150,000VND x 5 EA = 750,000VND
At the 4,890,000VND, plus 8% general VAT and 10% alcohol VAT, totaled 5,302,200VND, which is not too high price since we ordered a lot of things and ate. King Stone is an attractive restaurant where you can taste various parts of aging pork at a reasonable price, and it was the most satisfying BBQ restaurant I recently visited.
