#1. District 1, Restaurant in Southern Vietnam Hoang Tam Review
Hoang Tam is a southern Vietnam local food franchise restaurant with several outlets in downtown Ho Chi Minh City. They operate stores in District 1, District Binh Thanh, District Phu Nhon, and District 7. On this day, I visited the store in District 1. Since the overall price range is a little higher than that of regular Vietnamese restaurants, this restaurant is mainly visited by wealthy locals and foreigners.
Although it is not at the level of fine dining, the prices are quite high for a local Vietnamese restaurant, so the interior design, staff uniforms, and service are definitely excellent. I visited with my wife on a Friday evening and sat down in the first floor hall.
My wife ordered Rau Ma Dau Xanh(centella juice mixed with mung beans and coconut milk) and I ordered Dua Tuoi Ben Tre(fresh coconut from Ben Tre region). A characteristic of this restaurant is that it serves specialties and drinks from southern Vietnam.
For my first dish, I ordered Bap Gio Heo(Pork Shank Wrap). It consists of a generous amount of rice paper, pork shank, rice noodles, pineapple, cucumber, star fruit, banana, and various vegetables. It also comes with special sauce used Mam Tom, a sauce made by fermenting shrimp, and mixed sugar, lime juice, garlic, and red pepper.
The rice paper here is not a cheap product that has to be soaked in water before use, but is soft and chewy, making it luxurious and easy to wrap and eat. It's really delicious when you put pork and various vegetables inside rice paper, wrap it and dip it in a spicy, sweet, and bitter special sauce.
For my second dish, I ordered Bun Bo Thit Cha(Meatball Bun Bo). It is a type of Vietnamese rice noodle made with bun, a type of rice noodle, in beef broth flavored with lemongrass, chili oil, and mam luoc sauce. It features a spicy-sweet soup with a refreshing finish, and contains various ingredients such as beef, meatballs(Thit Cha), and ham, so it is generous and delicious.
For my third dish, I ordered Banh Xeo Thit Bo Bam(Coconut Copra & Minced Beef Banh Xeo). It came with banh xeo, various vegetables, and a special sauce containing fish sauce(NUOC MAM), vinegar, and sugar.
It is a dish made by making a thin pancake of rice powder and turmeric powder, and put in there stir-fried coconut copra and minced beef. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's quite delicious when dipped in sweet and sour banh xeo sauce.
#2. Restaurant in Southern Vietnam Hoang Tam Menu
Hoang Tam is a franchise restaurant specializing in southern Vietnamese cuisine, serving a variety of dishes from the region. The menu has English names, descriptions, and photos, which are very helpful when ordering. Overall, the price is higher than other local Vietnamese restaurants, but considering the restaurant's atmosphere, food quality, staff's attire, and service, I feel it is not a bad price.
I visited with my wife on a Friday evening and ordered the meal below.
Banh Xeo Thit Bo Bam: 175,000VND
Bun Bo Thit Cha: 75,000VND
Bap Gio Heo: 285,000VND
Dua Tuoi Ben Tre: 49,000VND
Rau Ma Dau Xanh: 39,000VND
Khan Lanh: 3,000VND x 2개 = 6,000VND
Including 8% VAT, the amount came to 679,320 VND. Hoang Tam is an attractive restaurant where you can taste authentic southern Vietnamese cuisine. Although the prices are a little higher than other local restaurants, you should be quite satisfied with the restaurant atmosphere, food, and service.
