#1. District 1, Michelin Bib Gourmand Rice Noodle Restaurant Pho Phuong Review
Pho Phuong, a rice noodle restaurant awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand, is located next to the canal behind GEM Center and the zoo in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. It is one of the few authentic southern-style pho restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City that is popular with both foreigners and locals.
I visited on a Wednesday evening to dine alone, and it was quieter than usual, perhaps because it was raining heavily. I grabbed a seat at an empty table and ordered right away.
On the table are chopped chili, chili sauce, chili slices, nuoc mam sauce, black pepper, quay, chopsticks, etc. When you order, they immediately give you herbs, lime, and a wet wipes. The herbs are made up of Thai basil, culantro, and limnophila aromatica.
There are a variety of drinks available, including beer, iced tea, Red Bull, soft drinks, soy milk, and lime juice. I usually order iced tea(Tra Da) when I eat rice noodles, but on that day, I wanted something sweet, so I ordered Pepsi.
Originally I was going to order Pho Duoi Day Du(Assorted Beef Rice Noodle) which had all the beef parts including oxtail, but they ran out of oxtail, so I had no choice but to order To Lon Day Du(Large Bowl) which had all the beef parts except oxtail, including raw beef, brisket, flank, cartilage, tendon, and meatballs.
As expected from Southern-style rice noodle, the deep-flavored broth made by boiling beef had a subtle sweetness and sourness, and it was generously filled with various cuts of beef toppings, so much so that it could be said to be half meat and half noodle. You can enjoy the rice noodles even more deliciously by adding herbs, lime juice, pepper slices, chili sauce, and pepper to your taste.
#2. Rice Noodle Restaurant Pho Phuong Menu
Pho Phuong is a Michelin Bib Gourmand-selected restaurant, and is quite famous not only among locals but also among foreigners living in Ho Chi Minh City. The prices are a bit higher than other rice noodle restaurants in the area, but they serve a rich broth made from beef bones and generous toppings. It is a rice noodle selected for the Michelin Bib Gourmand, and considering the taste and quantity, it doesn’t feel expensive at all.
I visited alone for dinner on a Wednesday evening and ordered as below.
To Lon Day Du(Large Bowl): 90,000VND
Pepsi: 15,000VND
Wet Wipe: 2,000VND
For a total of 107,000VND, I was able to fill our stomachs with a traditional southern rice noodle that was awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand. Pho Phuong is a great restaurant that serves authentic southern pho at a reasonable price in the heart of the city, and is a must-visit if you want to try real pho in Ho Chi Minh.
