#1. District 1, Le Thanh Ton Steak House IL CORDA Review

Steak House IL CORDA is located in the building that the Ministop convenience store on Japanese Town in Le Thanh Ton, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. There is run by a Japanese owner. And along with EL GAUCHO and MOO BEEF STEAK, it is one of Ho Chi Minh's representative steak restaurants.

I visited for dinner on a Saturday evening and sat in a corner on the first floor. The ground floor also has a good atmosphere as you can dine facing the kitchen with a grill, but the spacious and luxurious first floor is better for dining.

When eating beef steak, I can't leave out red wine. There was a Pinot Noir wine tasting event, so I tasted it and ordered a glass. The bold and spicy flavor had a definite character, but the wine was not properly chilled, so I was disappointed that I couldn't enjoy the taste 100%.

Following the wine, bread and butter were served before the meal. It takes about 15 minutes for regular cooking and close to 30 minutes for steak, so you need to kill time by spreading soft butter on warm bread.

As a starter, I ordered SCALLOP GUANCIALE CARPACCIO. This Italian fusion dish is a good starter with raw meat and refreshing seasoning. Raw scallops are topped with olive oil, lemon, vinegar, garlic, guanchale, and caviar.

Soft and sweet raw scallops with the flavors of guanchalé and caviar, along with the scent of various spices and the sour, salty, and spicy tastes combine to whet your appetite before tasting the main dish. It was a dish that went well with red wine, which has a strong flavor and aroma, rather than white wine.

When I ordered steak, I added CREAMED SPINACH as a side. Although IL CORDA's steaks are delicious, one big drawback is that you have to order additional sides and sauces. Of course, quality of sides and sauces are really good, but the cost is a little burden.

The main dish, BLACK ANGUS PREMIUM RIB EYE STEAK(300g), came with CREAMED SPINACH. Salt, pepper, and wasabi are provided as standard, and garnishes include egg potato and roasted garlic.

I chose to cook the steak medium, and the doneness was perfect, the resting time was sufficient to retain the juices well, and the unique Angus flavor and texture were also excellent, leaving no flaws. Wagyu has a lot of fat, so it is soft and savory, but I personally think Angus, which is moderately soft, has a chewy texture, and has a strong meat flavor, is better to eat as a steak.

I additionally ordered ROQUEFORT CHEESE SAUCE(blue cheese sauce). The sauce was expensive at 150,000 VND (8,100 won), it had an excellent aroma and flavor, allowing me to enjoy the steak more deliciously. Steak House IL CORDA is a restaurant that definitely serves steak well.

When you leave the restaurant after finishing your meal, the staff opens the door and gives you a macaron. There is macaron that is well packaged in a cute paper bag, and this chewy and sweet taste makes it a great dessert after a meal.

#2. Steak House IL CORDA Menu

Steak House IL CORDA's steaks are broadly divided into three categories: BLACK ANGUS, AUSTRALIAN WAGYU, and JAPANESE WAGYU, and special menu items such as beef tongue steak are also available. In addition, they serve pasta, salad, and a variety of starters and side dishes. The overall price range is high, and it is a bit disappointing that even if you order a steak, you have to pay for sides and sauce separately.

I visited alone on a Saturday evening and ordered the dishes below.

  1. SCALLOP GUANCIALE CARPACCIO: 158,000VND

  2. BLACK ANGUS PREMIUM RIB EYE STEAK(300g): 1,280,000VND

  3. CREAMED SPINACH: 100,000VND

  4. ROQUEFORT CHEESE SAUCE: 150,000VND

  5. HEMISFERIO CABERNET SAUVIGNON: 178,000VND

  6. DUFOULEUR PERE & FILS PINOT NOIR: 210,000VND


At the 2,076,000VND, plus 8% general VAT and 10% alcohol VAT, resulted in a fairly high amount of 2,362,332VND. Although IL CORDA is expensive, it is definitely worth a visit if you want to taste a proper steak due to the restaurant atmosphere, staff service, and most of all, the taste of the steak.
