District 1, Le Thanh Ton Korean Restaurant MOMBOSIN Review(2024.04)

#1. District 1, Le Thanh Ton Korean Restaurant MOMBOSIN Review

MOMBOSIN is located in the alley next to the Ministop convenience store across from CJ Building near Le Thanh Ton Japanese Town, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. It is a Korean restaurant that serves a variety of Korean food, including grilled foods, stews, and meals, and is almost the only place in District 1 that serves Korean style health food properly, such as Samgyetang(ginseng chicken soup) and Doganisuyuk(boiled knuckle).

The first floor of the restaurant has a kitchen and a hall table, and the second and third floors have private rooms. I visited with my family to eat after 8 o'clock on Thursday, but perhaps because it was late, there weren't many people.

After we sit down and order some food, they quickly serve us the side dishes. Ten side dishes are served, including stir-fried anchovies, green onion kimchi, cabbage kimchi, garlic chives kimchi, seasoned eggplants, braised lotus root, pickled onions, radish kimch, rolled eggs, and seasoned spinach, and each and every one is delicious. The seasoned eggplants and braised lotus root were especially good.

For our first dish, I ordered Jar Smoked Pork Belly. Pork belly is slowly cooked with charcoal in a jar and placed on a large stone plate to grilled and eat. The portion is quite generous as it is topped with bean sprouts, green onions, and onions.

Smoked pork belly is basically salty and delicious to eat on its own, but it tastes even better when dipped in the ssamjang or mustard sauce that comes with it. It's a decent food that's reasonably priced, generous, and goes really well with soju.

For our second dish, I ordered Beef Bone Broth Based Pork Kimchi Stew. It was a spicy kimchi stew made with pork, moderately sour kimchi, and green onions boiled in savory beef bone broth, and it was served in a large earthen pot, so the portion was huge.

The beef bone broth was surprisingly clean and not heavy, and there was plenty of pork, and the acidity of the sour kimchi added a nice umami flavor, making it a very well-made kimchi stew. It's a good dish to order as a meal because it comes with a bowl of rice as well.

As our third food, I ordered Steamed Eggs. My wife really liked the steamed eggs, so I ordered it, and it was a ordinary dish with nothing special about it other than the finely chopped green and red peppers on top.

I ordered Chive Pancake as our fourth and final dish. Even though there are no special ingredients other than chives and pancake powder, the chive pancakes that are crispy on both sides and are well-cooked are delicious when dipped in the soy sauce that comes with it.

I wasn't going to drink alcohol, but when I saw the chive pancake, I couldn't help but order makgeolli. Aside from chive pancakes, makgeolli goes well with smoked pork belly and kimchi stew.

MOMBOSIN is a restaurant in District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City where you can taste good quality Korean food at a reasonable price. In particular, it is one of the few places in Ho Chi Minh City that serves Korean style health food properly, such as Samgyetang(ginseng chicken soup) and Doganisuyuk(boiled knuckle), so which is big advantage of this restaurant.

#2.  Korean Restaurant MOMBOSIN Menu

MOMBOSIN is a Korean restaurant that serves a variety of Korean food, including grilled foods, stews, and meals. It is almost the only place in Ho Chi Minh District 1 that serves Korean style health food properly, such as Samgyetang(ginseng chicken soup) and Doganisuyuk(boiled knuckle). The menu prices are a bit higher than other Korean restaurants, but the portions are large and VAT is not charged separately, so it's not bad.

I visited with my family on a Thursday evening and ordered the meal below.

  1. Jar Smoked Pork Belly: 580,000VND

  2. Beef Bone Broth Based Pork Kimchi Stew: 180,000VND

  3. Steamed Eggs: 160,000VND

  4. Chive Pancake: 180,000VND

  5. Makgeolli: 180,000VND x 2 EA = 360,000VND

For a total of 1,460,000VND, I was able to eat delicious Korean food with my family. MOMBOSIN is a place where you can taste stews and soups made with rich beef bone broth boiled in house. Although the prices of the meals are not cheap, the portions are generous and the taste is good, making it a Korean restaurant well known to Korean residents living in Ho Chi Minh.
