#1. District 1, Le Thanh Ton Japanese Town ME-TETSU IZAKAYA Review
Japanese restaurant ME-TETSU IZAKAYA is located in the alley next to Gyoza no Chikara, a gyoza restaurant, in Le Thanh Ton Japanese Town, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. Among the many izakayas in Japanese Town, this restaurant is frequented by not only Japanese but also locals because the food is reasonably priced and the taste also is good.
ME-TETSU IZAKAYA has a store entrance on the 1.5th floor where you have to climb a few stairs, and is equipped with a kitchen and bar tables. Go down the stairs in the space behind the bar table, you will find a hall with tables located in the semi-basement. I visited alone on a Saturday evening and sat at the bar table.
I ordered a glass of sweet potato shochu Aka-Kirishima first. Aka Kirishima is a high-quality sweet potato shochu with a soft, subtle sweetness and elegant aroma. This is a alcohol that goes better with slightly more luxurious snacks than with cheap snacks.
For my first dish, I ordered Gyu Tan Roast Beef(Beef Tongue). Well-cooked beef tongue is sliced thinly and served with wasabi. It has a soft texture and a luxurious taste without any unpleasant smell, so it goes well with Aka-Kirishima.
For my second dish, I ordered Namero(Horse Mackerel Tartare). It is a local dish of Chiba Prefecture made with finely chopped horse mackerel and mixed with miso seasoning. The combination of the savory and elastic texture of horse mackerel with the rich miso sauce was quite good. It is very delicious when wrapped with the seaweed and onions that come with it.
Both the alcohol content and price were too high to only drink sweet potato shochu, so I switched to Asahi bottled beer. It is a beer almost no scent or taste, with a strong refreshing feeling, and a clean finish, making it great to drink with oily and spicy foods.
For my third dish, I ordered New Taiwan Ramen. It is made pork, chives, green onions, bean sprouts, etc. are stir-fried with spicy pepper seasoning and then added to ramen. This is a special ramen mainly found in the Chukyo area, an urban area centered around Nagoya City. By Japanese standards, this ramen is spicy, but for other Country, it is mild, so it is recommended to eat it with more chili oil.
For my fourth and final dish, I ordered Shiro Kara(Mayo Sauce Karaage). Four large pieces of karaage were topped with mayo sauce, and it was the best dish I had that day. The karaage was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, topped with a sweet, salty, and savory mayo sauce, and it was more delicious than expected.
#2. ME-TETSU IZAKAYA Menu
ME-TETSU IZAKAYA is an attractive restaurant that sells most of the food we expect from an izakaya, including yakitori, yakiniku, sushi, sashimi, and ramen, at reasonable prices and is delicious. They also serve a variety of drinks including beer, shochu, sake, and highball, but the drink prices are a bit high, so which is disappointing.
I visited for a meal alone on a Saturday evening and ordered the following.
Gyu Tan Roast Beef(Beef Tongue): 138,000VND
Namero(Horse Mackerel Tartare): 148,000VND
New Taiwan Ramen: 148,000VND
Shiro Kara(Mayo Sauce Karaage): 88,000VND
A Glass of Aka-Kirishima: 128,000VND
Asahi Beer: 69,000VND x 2 EA = 138,000VND
With 8% general VAT and 10% alcohol VAT, the total was 856,360VND, which is quite high for a meal alone. But considering that I ate four dishes, a glass of sweet potato soju, and two bottles of beer, it's actually not a bad price. ME-TETSU IZAKAYA is an attractive restaurant where you can try a variety of Japanese snacks at reasonable prices and is a great place to visit for a meal or a drink.
