#1. District 1, Le Thanh Ton Chinese Restaurant MABU KKOCHI Review
MABU KKOCHI, a lamb skewer and mala soup restaurant, operates stores in Le Thanh Ton, District 1, An Phu Lexington, District 2, and Phu My Hung Midtown, District 7. The place I visited that day is located in Japanese Town, Le Thanh Ton, District 1. This is a restaurant where you can enjoy a variety of Chinese food at a reasonable price, and it is the first place that comes to mind when I crave lamb skewers and mala soup.
There is no lamb skewer grill machine installed at the table on the first floor, so many people usually eat mala soup or other dishes. There is a kitchen on the second floor and a table equipped with a lamb skewer grill machine on the third floor. Since the skewers are grilled in the kitchen also possible, you can also order skewers on the first floor.
MABU KKOCHI serves four side dishes stir-fried peanuts, pickled radish, pao tsai, and pickled cucumber, but on this day, when I visited during lunch time, the stir-fried peanuts and pickled radish were not ready yet, so only pao tsai and pickled cucumber were served.
Although sales have dropped significantly due to recent issues, refreshing Tsingtao goes best with lamb skewers. Its unique bitterness, clean aftertaste, and moderate refreshing sensation go well with spicy Chinese food.
For my first dish, I ordered Mala Soup(Add Beef). The large bowl was filled with beef, Chinese vermicelli, enoki mushrooms, tofu skin, dried tofu, bok choy, cabbage, broccoli, bean sprouts, and kelp, and the portion was enormous. You can choose the level of spiciness among light, slightly spicy, medium spicy, and death, but on this day, I ordered slightly spicy, which is about as spicy as Shin Ramyun.
Various ingredients are put into a large pot and cooked in the kitchen, so you can eat it right away. The variety of vegetables, dried tofu, and beef, with their tangy and addictive spicy flavor that made your mouth tingle, were really good as a meal or as a side dish for drinks.
For my second dish, I ordered 5 each of Lamb Skewers and Mala Skewers. The lamb skewers were ordinary, nothing special, and the mala skewers were lamb skewers coated with mara sauce and seemed like a good choice for people who like the mala flavor. MABU KKOCHI sells skewers in increments of 3, 5, or 10, which has the great advantage of allowing you to taste a variety of skewers even if you visit alone.
For my third and final dish, I ordered a small size of Sweet and Sour Pork. It's a classic Chinese dish made with thinly sliced pork, coated in potato starch, fried until crispy, and then mixed with a sweet and sour sauce. It's really delicious. When eating spicy mala soup and lamb skewers, it is not a bad idea to mix in one of these sour foods.
MABU KKOCHI is a restaurant where you can taste various Chinese dishes such as lamb skewers and mala soup at reasonable prices. The portions are generous and the taste is good, and the alcohol prices are cheaper than other nearby restaurants, so it's a good place to visit when you want to have a drink with lamb skewers, mala soup, or sweet and sour pork.
#2. Chinese Restaurant MABU KKOCHI Menu
MABU KKOCHI serves a variety of Chinese dishes, including mala soup and lamb skewers, as well as mapo tofu, sweet and sour pork, and lamb soup. The prices of the overall menu are reasonable, and you can order small quantities, such as 3 to 5 skewers or small-sized dishes, so even if you visit alone, you can taste a variety of food. If you visit during lunch on a weekday, you can get a lunch set at a low price, and the regular set is also good value, so it seems like it would be good to order if multiple people visit.
My friend and I visited during lunch time on a Sunday and ordered the following.
Lamb Skewers(5 EA): 120,000VND
Mala Skewers(5 EA): 120,000VND
Mala Soup(Add Beef): 150,000VND
Sweet and Sour Pork: 150,000VND
Tsingtao Beer: 90,000VND x 2 EA = 180,000VND
Sapporo Draft Beer: 45,000VND x 3 EA = 135,000VND
Jinro Soju: 140,000VND
A total of 995,000VND, plus 8% general VAT and 10% alcohol VAT, came out to be 1,083,700VND, which is not much higher than what I ate. MABU KKOCHI is a restaurant where you can enjoy a variety of Chinese food at a reasonable price such as lamb skewers and mala soup. It is the first place that comes to mind when I crave lamb skewers and mala soup.
