#1. District 1, Korean Premium BBQ MIDAM Review
Midam, a Korean premium BBQ restaurant recently opened by Ho Chi Minh's famous BBQ restaurant chain PLAN-K, is located near the Tran Hung Dao Statue on Ton Duc Thang Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, and occupies an entire dark-colored, luxurious-looking large building.
There is a kitchen and waiting room on the ground floor, and you can sit in the waiting room and wait until your seat is set. There is a window on one wall of the waiting room where you can see the aging meat, giving it the feeling of being a more professional barbecue restaurant.
I booked a private room to take my family to dinner at the Vietnamese Lunar New Year holiday(Tet). The overall room has a dark gray tone, and the tables and tableware are also equipped with things that match the atmosphere, giving it the feel of a luxurious fine dining restaurant.
We served a variety of side dishes, including ssam, green onion salad, tteokbokki, japchae, salad, garlic stem pickles, soy sauce braised potatoes, kimchi, wild leek pickles, steamed pork belly, radish kimchi, etc. All side dishes except tteokbokki were clean and delicious, but the portions were so small that we refilled them several times.
I went out to eat with my family at a Korean barbecue restaurant after a long time, and I couldn't help but order beef. I ordered 2 servings(320g) of Fresh Boneless Short Ribs, which is quite low in cost-effectiveness but has a really good taste. When you order meat, the staff will show you the meat so you can check it before grilling it.
Following the Fresh Boneless Short Ribs, I ordered 2 servings(840-900g) of Seasoned Pork Ribs, which were good value for money. The portions are plentiful and the taste is good, so it's great to order with beef at a restaurant. In particular, the sweet and salty taste suits the tastes of local Vietnamese people, making it a good choice to order when visiting for a meal with locals.
There is a meat grilling facility in one corner of the private room, so the staff starts grilling the meat after you check meat. My plan for this day was to start with Fresh Boneless Short Ribs and finish with Seasoned Pork Ribs.
I saw makgeolli on the menu, which I had never seen before, so I ordered it out of curiosity. It's 100 Billion Prebiotics Makgeolli, and it seems to be popular in Korea. I mixed it well and drank it without any sediment settling at the bottom of the bottle, but the taste was a bit less heavy and had a strong refreshing feeling, so it seems to be a taste that young people would especially like.
While I was drinking a glass of makgeolli with side dishs, I was served medium-cooked Fresh Boneless Short Ribs. It's delicious dipped in ssamjang, but the oily bottom sirloin goes best with a combination of wasabi and salt. Although it was expensive, it definitely had an impact, so I wanted to order more, but I had to hold back because I couldn't afford the cost if I filled my stomach with this.
Following the bottom sirloin, Seasoned Pork Ribs came out. Even though the weight includes the bones, it was still a considerable amount at a low cost. The soft and tender meat was well seasoned with sweet and salty sauce, so it was really delicious.
I was bored eating only meat, so I ordered some kimchi stew. Since it was for meal, it was served in a large earthen pot with a bowl of rice. It was a delicious kimchi stew with a generous amount of pork belly, tofu, etc., and a clean spicy and sour taste with moderately ripe kimchi.
I feel sad if I don't order steamed egg at a BBQ restaurant. Unlike other Korean restaurants, Midam's steamed egg has a hollow inside and a brown thin sauce is sprinkled on top. The visual may have been a little disappointing because it was different from what I was used to, but the combination of the steamed egg with plump shrimp and the savory sauce was unexpectedly excellent, so it was definitely delicious.
To end the meal, I ordered small size cold noodles. Looking at the noodles and broth filled in a large porcelain bowl, the quantity was so large that you could have mistakenly thought that I had ordered regular cold noodles. The taste is almost similar to the taste of regular cold noodles eaten at other restaurants, but the taste of this is not strong and less exciting, so I thought it was a good match for the high-end concept.
#2. Korean Premium BBQ MIDAM Menu
Midam, a Korean premium BBQ restaurant, In addition to grilled meat, serves a variety of Korean foods such as galbitang, seolleongtang, cold noodles, bean noodles, kalguksu, green onion pancakes, gamjatang, and meat pancakes. The quality of beef is high, so the price is high, but pork and other meals are reasonably priced, so it's not a bad place to visit for a meal with family.
I visited for a family meal on the Vietnamese Lunar New Year holiday(Tet) and ordered the following.
Seasoned Pork Ribs(420~450g): 500,000VND x 2 EA = 1,000,000VND
Fresh Boneless Short Ribs(160g): 700,000VND x 2 EA = 1,400,000VND
Kimchi Stew: 170,000VND
Steamed Egg: 100,000VND
Cold Noodles(Small): 100,000VND
100 Billion Prebiotics Makgeolli: 180,000VND
Soft Drinks: 30,000VND x 2 EA = 60,000VND
A total of 3,010,000VND, including 8% food VAT, 10% alcohol VAT, and 10% Lunar New Year service fee, came out to 3,579,840VND, which was cheaper than expected. Midam is a place where you can taste authentic Korean food in a luxurious restaurant, making it a great place to visit with family or important guests.
