#1. District 1, Japanese Restaurant Curry Shika Review
Japanese restaurant Curry Shika is located in an alley next to September 23 Park near Bui Vien Walking Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. It is an attractive restaurant where you can enjoy generous curry that tastes just like the one you had in Japan at a reasonable price.
It is a small restaurant located in an alley, and its wooden interior gives it the feel of a long-established restaurant in a small Japanese town. Uniquely, you have to take off your shoes before entering the restaurant, and the kitchen is on the second floor, so the staff has to go up and down steep stairs to serve and clean up the food. This is a restaurant with a unique Japanese analog sensibility.
I took a seat at the table and the staff laid out a cute table mat and poured water into a uniquely designed ceramic glass. In addition to basic items such as cutlery, toothpicks, and tissues, there was a small bowl of roasted coffee on the table, perhaps to eliminate bad odors.
I ordered a can of Sapporo beer to drink with my curry. A glass filled with a little water was frozen and served along with the beer. I really liked this special service, which is not available at other restaurants.
Before the curry came, they served cabbage salad and rakkyo first. They were all nothing special. It would have been better if it had vinegared ginger and shichimi like the famous franchise Coco Ichibanya, but it was disappointing that they didn't.
For my meal that day, I ordered Hamburg Cheese Egg Pork Curry. This is a huge curry with pork, hamburger steak, cheese, and fried eggs added to the basic curry. The addition of a generous amount of tender pork mixed with a mild Japanese-style curry that is not spicy but not too strong made it not boring. Hamburger steak topped with cheese and a fried egg also made the curry taste richer.
Curry Shika is a restaurant where you can eat plenty of curry that tastes just like the one you had in Japan at a reasonable price, making it an attractive place to visit when you're craving Japanese-style curry.
#2. Japanese Restaurant Curry Shika Menu
Japanese restaurant Curry Shika uses one curry base. The price varies depending on the ingredients added, such as eggs, tuna, vegetables, hamburger steak, cheese, fried eggs, natto, and pork. In addition to curry, it also serves traditional Japanese desserts such as mochi and dango along with tea, making this restaurant especially popular with young local people who love Japanese culture.
I visited alone for dinner on a Wednesday evening and ordered the following.
Hamburg Cheese Egg Pork Curry: 299,000VND
Sapporo Beer(330ml): 29,000VND x 2 EA = 58,000VND
For a total of 357,000VND, I was able to fill up on a delicious Japanese curry, including two cans of beer. Curry Shika is one of the few Japanese curry restaurants located in downtown Ho Chi Minh City. It is an attractive restaurant where you can enjoy generous curry that tastes just like the one you had in Japan at a reasonable price.
