District 1, French Restaurant Le Jardin Review(2024.02)

#1. District 1, French Restaurant Le Jardin Review

French restaurant Le Jardin is located at the end of Thai Van Lung Street near Le Thanh Ton Japanese Town, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. The interior of the restaurant is obscured by a wall covered in vines, making it difficult to see the inside, and it difficult to find the restaurant on your first visit.

At Le Jardin, it is better to sit outside and eat in the good atmosphere rather than inside the dark and stuffy interior. The outdoor tables always fill up quickly, especially on cool evenings.

I visited for dinner with my wife on a Thursday evening, and there were no empty seats outside, so we were directed to an indoor table. As soon as I took my seat, I immediately ordered 250ml of house red wine. It didn't have a deep taste or aroma as it was cheap, but it was enough to set the mood while having dinner at a reasonable price.

A warm baguette was served, and it was quite delicious as it was soft and savory, not hard or tough. Baguettes are delicious eaten on their own, but they taste even better when paired with French cuisine that goes well with them.

Our first dish was Burgundy Snails. It is a dish where snails are placed on a specially shaped plate and cooked with olive oil, parsley, salt, etc., and the chewy texture of the snails along with their savory and flavorful taste are attractive.

After eating the snail, tear the baguette into small pieces and dip it in the remaining olive oil inside the hole to enjoy the heavenly taste. The taste is quite addictive and goes well with wine, so when I go to a French restaurant, I always order snails and eat them with bread.

The second dish was Tagliatelle with Four Cheeses Sauce. This is pasta made with flat and wide tagliatelle noodles mixed in a sauce made with four types of cheese, including parmesan and blue cheese. It served with Parmesan cheese in a small bowl so you can add more to suit your taste.

When I added all the Parmesan cheese that came with the pasta, sprinkled a generous amount of pepper powder, and mixed it, it became thick and looked delicious. The complex sour, salty and umami flavors of the various cheeses, along with the peppery and spicy flavor, made it delicious and not too greasy.

The third dish was Beef Fillet. I ordered it cooked to medium and chose the blue cheese sauce. The doneness wasn't bad, it was a decent beef steak for a reasonable price, and it came with french fries on the side, so I was quite satisfied.

The fourth and final dish was the dessert Classic Ice Cream. It was a not-so-special sweet dessert consisting of chocolate ice cream topped with whipped cream. Overall, Le Jardin's dishes are decent or better for the price, but the desserts don't seem as satisfying as the dishes.

#2. Le Jardin Menu

As Le Jardin is a casual French restaurant, the menu is casual and the prices are quite affordable. Although the menu is not diverse, it can be said to have most of the dishes that people often look for, and they have a variety of wines at relatively low prices compared to other restaurants, so you can enjoy French cuisine and wine at a reasonable price.

I visited for dinner with my wife on a Thursday evening and ordered the following.

  1. Burgundy Snails: 220,000VND

  2. Tagliatelle with Four Cheeses Sauce: 180,000VND

  3. Beef Fillet: 210,000VND

  4. Classic Ice Cream: 105,000VND

  5. House Red Wine(250ml): 120,000VND

  6. Coke: 35,000VND

The total was 870,000VND, which is quite cheap considering that I ordered a variety of dishes at a French restaurant. Le Jardin is a great restaurant that serves a variety of French dishes at a reasonable price and is definitely worth a visit for those living in Ho Chi Minh City.
