#1. District 1, French Restaurant Chef Thien Review
French restaurant Chef Thien is located at the end of an alley next to the famous local restaurant Nha Hang Ngon, behind the People's Committee Building in District 1, Ho Chi Minh. This is an attractive restaurant where you can taste authentic French cuisine at a reasonable price, and is frequented by not only foreigners but also locals.
There are a few tables in a duplex structure restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. There are not many seats, so if you visit without a reservation during weekend dinner time, you may sometimes have to wait. It seems to become famous as a delicious restaurant among Japanese people living in Ho Chi Minh City, so I have been seeing many Japanese customers recently.
Although it is a casual restaurant where you can enjoy a variety of French dishes at an affordable price, I could feel that a lot of attention was paid to the tableware such as bowls, forks, and knives. It would have been nice to have salt and pepper on the table, but I had to ask the staff to give it to me separately.
After taking a seat and ordering, I was given Three warm baguettes with a subtle aroma of black pepper powder and unsalted butter as an pre-meal bread. The baguette was quite tasty as it was moist and soft, but it was disappointing that the butter was cold and hard.
Since I was at a French restaurant, I couldn't help but order wine. I ordered a glass of IL PUMO, an inexpensive Italian red wine. Made from Negroamaro, a grape variety native to southern Italy, it was a bold, dry, and mouthfeel was smooth wine that went well with food that was not sweet or spicy.
I visited alone for dinner on a Saturday and ordered the Weekend Set Menu 3 Courses. I chose Creamy Potato Soup as my starter. Crispy bacon, Emmental cheese, and parsley added to the soft, thick potato soup, adding a salty taste, aroma, and texture. The start of the course was better than expected.
For main I chose Tagliolini Vongole. It is similar to tagliatelle, but uses tagliolini, a thinner noodle, and an attractive dish with simple, non-irritating flavor and aroma made with clams, white wine, olive oil, and cherry tomatoes.
As the final dessert of the course, I chose the Frozen Cheese Cake, which is soft and savory like ice cream. It was quite delicious when cut into bite-size pieces and dipped in the sweet and sour raspberry and passion fruit sauce spread on the bottom of the plate, so I liked it as a way to end the meal.
#2. French Restaurant Chef Thien Menu
Chef Thien is a casual French restaurant that offers authentic French cuisine at reasonable prices. We sell a variety of a la carte dishes, including pasta, steak, salad, soup, and dessert. If you choose a course, you can taste several dishes at a lower price. In the case of 3 courses, it is enough for a woman, but it feels a bit small for an adult man, so it is recommended to order one more a la carte menu.
I visited alone for dinner on a Saturday evening and ordered the following.
Weekend Set Menu 3 Courses: 288,000VND
IL PUMO Red Wine(Glass): 148,000VND x 2 EA = 296,000VND
I was able to enjoy French cuisine for a reasonable price of 630,720VND including 8% VAT. Chef Thien is a casual French restaurant that offers authentic French cuisine at a reasonable price, making it an attractive restaurant that you can visit without burden.
