#1. District 1, Chinese Restaurant DIM TU TAC Takashimaya Branch Review
Chinese restaurant DIM TU TAC operates a total of 6 stores in Districts 1, 2, 5, and 7 of Ho Chi Minh City. When thinking of dim sum restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City, the first thing that comes to mind is DIM TU TAC, a Chinese restaurant that is so popular among locals and foreigners alike.
I usually go to the Dong Du Street branch, which occupies the entire large building across from the Sheraton Hotel, but on Sunday afternoon, my wife and I were shopping at Takashimaya Department Store, and we ended up visiting the Takashimaya branch, which had just opened on the 6th floor restaurant area.
DIM TU TAC is characterized by its tableware set featuring a cute red rooster. Many of the tableware, tablecloths, and other items are the same as those used at the Dong Du Street branch, but the restaurant atmosphere and staff service are slightly inferior to those of the Dong Du Street branch.
I ordered Tra Trung Quoc(jasmine tea) to drink with my meal. At the Dong Du Street branch, the staff would keep pouring tea whenever my cup was empty, but at the Takashimaya branch, I had to pour it myself.
The first dish I ordered was Xiu Mai(Pork & Shrimp Dumplings). This is one of DIM TU TAC's signature dim sum menus. The thin dough is filled with minced shrimp and pork. The taste and texture were quite excellent.
The second dish I ordered was Ha Cao Tom Tuoi(Shrimp Dumplings). It is a dumpling made with minced shrimp wrapped in a thin, transparent, and chewy dough. Unlike the pork-filled Siu Mai, it is not oily, so it is especially popular with those who like a light taste.
The third dish I ordered was Chan Ga Hap Tau Xi(Chicken Feet in Black Bean Sauce). This is a dish that can be easily found in any Chinese restaurant that serves dim sum in Ho Chi Minh City, but DIM TU TAK's chicken feet are the most perfect, with the rich seasoning soak through them and the meat so soft that the bones fall off easily.
The fourth dish I ordered was Banh Bao Thuong Hai(Soup Dumplings). It was oily and rich, but delicious, with a thin dough filled with juicy pork.
The fifth dish I ordered was Banh Cuon Hap Tom(Steamed Rolled Rice Pancake with Fried Shrimp). This is a attractive dim sum dish of fried shrimp balls wrapped in a thin rice batter, and I always order it whenever I visit DIM TU TAC.
The last sixth dish I ordered was Dau Que Xao Tom Bam Xot Cay(Stir-fried Green Beans with Shrimp). I wanted to order Stir-fried Green Beans with Pork, but it wasn't on the menu at Takashimaya. This wasn't bad either.
DIM TU TAC Takashimaya branch is definitely inferior to Dong Du Street branch in terms of restaurant atmosphere and service. However, I couldn't tell much difference in the taste of the food, and it is located in the restaurant area of Takashimaya department store, so it is easy to access, has a short waiting time, and sells dim sum in the evening, so it is worth visiting.
#2. Chinese Restaurant DIM TU TAC Menu
DIM TU TAC Takashimaya branch, unlike Dong Du Street branch, combines the food menu book and dim sum menu book, and sells dim sum in the evening. It seems that they felt a sense of crisis because other Chinese restaurants located in the same restaurant area, such as San Fu Lou and Jin Din Rou, also serve dim sum in the evening, so they started serving dim sum in the evening.
My wife and I visited for lunch on Sunday and ordered the following:
Chan Ga Hap Tau Xi(Chicken Feet in Black Bean Sauce): 68,000VND
Xiu Mai(Pork & Shrimp Dumplings): 78,000VND
Ha Cao Tom Tuoi(Shrimp Dumplings): 78,000VND
Banh Cuon Hap Tom(Steamed Rolled Rice Pancake with Fried Shrimp): 88,000VND
Banh Bao Thuong Hai(Soup Dumplings): 60,000VND
Dau Que Xao Tom Bam Xot Cay(Stir-fried Green Beans with Shrimp): 180,000VND
Tra Trung Quoc(Jasmine Tea): 20,000VND x 2 People = 40,000VND
Including 5% service charge and 8% VAT, the total came to 671,328VND. Wife and I enjoyed a lot of high-quality dim sum, it was a very reasonable price. DIM TU TAC is an attractive restaurant where you can taste not only dim sum but also various Chinese dishes at a good price. I definitely recommend visiting when you crave dim sum in Ho Chi Minh.
