#1. District 1, Bui Vien Street Local Restaurant Quan Ngon - Bun Cha Ha Noi Review
Local restaurant Quan Ngon - Bun Cha Ha Noi is located near the entrance of Bui Vien Walking Street in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. This restaurant is popular with foreign tourists, but it is also visited by many locals living nearby, as they offer a generous portion of delicious bun cha at a reasonable price.
I visited on a Tuesday evening for a meal after work and sat in the corner on the second floor. The restaurant was a small building, so the interior was cramped and there weren't many tables to dine at.
Quan Ngon sells soft drinks, coconuts, orange juice, coffee, beer, etc. at fairly cheap prices. They only sell two types of beer: Saigon Lager and Tiger Lager. I personally like Saigon Special, but no there.
I ordered the Special Bun Cha Set. The only difference from the Original Bun Cha Set is that it has one more Cha Gio(Spring Roll). Since Bun Cha and Cha Gio go well together and the price difference is not that big, I recommend ordering the Special Bun Cha Set.
Quan Nem, a famous bun cha restaurant, serves the grilled pork and meatballs separately with the nuoc mam sauce, but at Quan Ngon, the grilled pork and meatballs are served in the nuoc mam sauce. This was convenient because it could just put the Bun(rice noodles) in the sauce and eat it, but it had the disadvantage of not being able to control the amount of sauce.
When I ordered Bun Cha, it came with vegetables such as lettuce and perilla leaves, chopped chili peppers, garlic, and lime. I added some spiciness to the nuoc mam sauce by adding chopped chili peppers and garlic, and added the vegetables, which were torn by hand into bite-size pieces.
The sweet and sour nuoc mam sauce with a spicy flavor, the aroma and texture of various vegetables, and the taste of oily meat create a perfect harmony. It didn't look like much at first glance, but the amount of rice noodles was so much that I felt full after eating.
When I ordered the special Bun Cha set, the Cha Gio that came with it was a Vietnamese spring roll wrapped in rice paper and deep-fried with various fillings such as minced pork, vermicelli, carrots, green onions, and cabbage. It was nice on its own, but it was really good when dipped in the nuoc mam sauce and eaten with the rice noodles.
#2. Quan Ngon - Bun Cha Ha Noi Menu
Local restaurant Quan Ngon - Bun Cha Ha Noi is located near the entrance of Bui Vien Walking Street, a famous entertainment area in Ho Chi Minh City, but you can taste some really delicious bun cha at a reasonable price. The menu is simple with one sheet, but it is well-organized with original bun cha, special bun cha, spring roll set, vegetarian set, and a la carte menu. The prices of drinks such as soft drinks, beer, and coffee are also cheap, making it an attractive local restaurant worth visiting.
I visited for dinner alone on a Tuesday evening and ordered as follows:
Special Bun Cha Set: 99,000VND
Saigon Lager: 30,000VND
I was able to have a satisfying meal for a low price of 129,000VND. Quan Ngon, a Hanoi-style bun cha restaurant, is located in an entertainment area, but the food quality is better than expected and the price is reasonable, so if you are staying at a hotel nearby or are hanging out at Bui Vien Walking Street, it is a good place to visit.
