#1. District 1, Ben Thanh Market French Restaurant COCOTTE Review
French restaurant COCOTTE has three stores in Ho Chi Minh City alone. This is a casual French restaurant where you can enjoy a variety of French dishes at reasonable prices in cozy atmosphere.
I visited alone for dinner on a Wednesday evening and found a seat in a corner on the first floor. They recently changed the sign and renewed the menu, but the interior remained the same. Rather than Vietnamese locals, most of them were Asians from other countries such as Korea and China, and there were also a few Westerners.
The restaurant serves warm handmade baguettes as an aperitif, and it was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. It's delicious to eat on its own, but you can enjoy it even more when you eat it with other foods.
Since I was at a French restaurant, I ordered a 250ml carafe of inexpensive house red wine. As it was cheap, it didn't have much scent or flavor and wasn't anything special, but it wasn't bad with meal.
For my first dish, I ordered Burgundy Snail. A unique plate with 6 holes contains snails cooked with breadcrumbs, olive oil, pepper, salt, minced garlic, and parsley. It is little bit oily but has attractive subtle garlic scent with salty taste.
It's really delicious when you tear the baguette into small pieces, and dip them in the remaining sauce after eat the snails. Because of this, whenever I go to a French restaurant, I always order snails.
For my second dish, I ordered Duck Magret Pepper Sauce. This dish consists of medium-cooked duck breast steak, pepper sauce, roasted potatoes, and salad. The amount of duck breast is not small, but they also serve roasted potatoes quite a lot, making it generous.
The soft and meaty flavor duck breast makes you feel like eating beef, and when you dip it in the pepper sauce that comes with it, it adds a sweet and salty taste along with a spicy pepper flavor, making it quite a luxurious taste.
It would not be easy to find a restaurant in Ho Chi Minh where you can taste French food of this quantity and taste at a reasonable price like Cocotte. This is a great restaurant to visit when you want to enjoy French cuisine casually.
#2. French Restaurant COCOTTE Menu
COCOTTE recently renewed its menu, and it looks much better than before. There is no significant change in price, but the quantity of main dishes has been slightly reduced, unpopular menu items have been removed and new menu items have been added. Even though the main dishes has been slightly reduced, they are still enough or a little too much to eat on their own.
I visited on a Wednesday evening to dine alone and ordered the following.
Burgundy Snail: 125,000VND
Duck Magret Pepper Sauce: 185,000VND
House Red Wine Carafe 25cl: 180,000VND
I was able to taste delicious French cuisine for a reasonable price of 532,800VND, including 8% general VAT and 10% alcohol VAT. COCOTTE is a casual French restaurant where you can enjoy a variety of French dishes at reasonable prices in cozy atmosphere.
